Soft, elegant, feminine and cultivated on the principle of confidence and love

Soft, elegant, feminine and cultivated on the principle of confidence and love. This is how the petite 26-year-old brunette describes her label, Chic and Mignon.

“The range is designed for women who have a taste for adventure and a courageous spirit,” says the Umhlanga designer who followed her dream and started the label May this year, just days after marrying Sharks rugby player Chiliboy Ralepelle.

Although she graduated with a marketing degree, Margaux says she has had a fascination for fashion since she was around 12 years old. After completing her studies, she did an internship with a Cape Town based fashion designer.

“Growing up, my mom used to work as a manager for various fashion brands and as a teenager I spent time in her shop every week. I could spend hours dressing up and trying different styles. Fashion has always been a part of my life,” says Margaux.

After moving to South African with her now husband two years ago, Margaux settled down and opened an agency specialising in branding and marketing for businesses in the fashion industry.

“Business was hard though and I didn’t succeed with the company because I felt something was missing. Too many people are afraid of the word ‘failure’, but at the end of the day it’s just a word. All that really matters is how you persevere through the failure. I decided to turn my failures into something positive and learn from them. I chose not to give up and rather to believe in myself.”

Margaux says she was determined to create a range for women who needed to carry their confidence into the work place and everyday life. “I learnt everything I’ve needed to know about fashion through modelling, attending fashion shows and watching British and French Fashion Week online. I have always just been skilled at putting outfits together and I’m just passionate about fashion.”

Margaux successfully designed, sourced fabrics and ran garments though a local CMT to bring out her first collection of 10 garments, all of which she says are soft and feminine and have characteristics that form part of her personality.

Margaux says her husband’s professional approach to his sporting career and his hard work and perseverance inspired her to chase her own dreams and work hard at achieving them.

“I hope to inspire women to stand strong in adversity and to fight for what they believe in. Women can be feminine and have a resilient spirit. My dream is to build a brand that evokes confidence in my clients every time they wear an item.”

Margaux is currently working on her next range which will be available in January next year.

The current collection is available on Margaux’s catalogue website and the collection can be viewed by appointment only in her showroom.

Margaux’s party season fashion tips:

“The end of the season will look like a romantic movie, so you will have to step out of your comfort zone and upgrade your summer wardrobe…”

Pastel colours

Expect to see a lot of lace, checks, feathers and deconstructed garments. All the pastel nuances will be also on trend, making ensembles chic and feminine.

Long dress and bike short

There will be a huge inspiration from the 70s, 80s and 90s with extra, extra-large pants, long dresses, sleepwear and sportswear style this season.

Thick soles

For a sportswear touch, tireless sneakers will still be in this season – but expect to see more original and more creative sneaker models. Wedges are also in and look a lot cooler than the block heels!

Chain belts and beaded bags

Chain belts are big this season and beaded bags are the new basket bags, which are slowly replacing the tote bag.

Layered necklaces

In terms of jewellery, you can now play with texture by mixing and matching different styled chains. Coin necklaces with layered necklaces are going to be on trend this season.
