How massage during pregnancy can help prepare you for childbirth…

Besides the obvious wonderful end result, pregnancy itself can be quite taxing on the average woman. But research tells us that massage during pregnancy can help you adjust to the many changes your body is undergoing as it prepares for childbirth.

Umhlanga biokinetisist Mae Boote specialises in postnatal and deep tissue massage. She says many women also don’t realise that massage is safe at any stage throughout pregnancy. “There are many well-documented benefits to regular pregnancy massage including reduced anxiety and back pain, improved mood and sleep, lowered urinary stress hormones, as well as calmer, shorter and less intervened birth experiences.”

With her core focus on postnatal and deep tissue massage for women, Mae says the benefits of a good massage are endless and postnatal massage is a fantastic way to help restore your body after pregnancy and birth.

“It helps relieve aches, pains and tiredness you may have while caring for your new baby. It is important to take care of yourself as well as your baby in the months following childbirth.”

Even if you aren’t or haven’t recently been pregnant, Mae says deep tissue massage for woman is a nurturing, effective massage involving the use of slow, firm techniques to relax, lengthen and release restrictions in muscle and connective tissue layers. She says regular massage provides relief from aches and pains and helps keep chronic issues at bay. It is especially helpful for tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, low back tightness, and achy shoulders.
