OUTDOOR LIVING

Free flowing – Palm Lakes
The brief to architect Tracy Levinson from Kim White for the outdoor living area of their Palm Lakes home was to create something fun, comfortable and useable. And that’s exactly what Tracy managed to accomplish. As avid entertainers who also enjoy quiet nights ‘chilling’ outside, the Whites wanted areas that could be used separately or as one space when the sliding doors were opened. Worth mentioning is the beautiful, exposed brick fire place. “We love the vibe it adds to the outside area. The funky tiled bar which leads onto the outside area also adds a bit of fun to the space. Without a doubt the flow of all the areas is what allows the space to work so well,” says Kim. Details: Tracy Levinson, LevEco Architects: www.leveco.co.za

Subtle style – Mount Edgecombe

According to interior designer Lisa Hunter of Lisa Walters Interiors, the coastal location of this home was the inspiration behind the beautiful, earthy, white and green colour scheme. Because the rest of the home is quite neutral, Lisa opted to add a pop of colour with shades of green. This resonates with the garden and outdoor living space. The all-weather-proof furniture is practical while still being stylish. This includes the large white sofa which is upholstered in a faux leather and can easily be wiped down when dusty. The cushions in various textures create interest and the outdoor palm rug from Hertex adds a bit of fun to the space. They also added lots of pot plants, creating a lush extension of the garden. KITCHEN ENVY

Modern style – Palm Lakes
There is nothing not to love about the White family kitchen. It is without a doubt a focal point in the home, and somewhere you would want to spend a lot of time. Designed by Lucille Mcfadyen from Kitchens for You and Tracy Levinson from LevEco Architects, owner Kim White says she wanted something traditional and homely, but also modern. “Lucille created a space that has everything where it should be – from the size of the island to the accessibility of the pot draws.” The shaker-styled cupboards, cup handles and wooden floating shelves emphasize the traditional style and the choice of white and exposed brick add to a modern feel. Kirsten Wuth from the Design Group assisted with the choice of flooring, which brings warmth to the room, as well as the lighting, which is also slightly more contemporary. Other features worth mentioning include the coffee station, and of course the large windows, high ceilings, exposed brick feature wall and exposed beams. Simply stunning. Family-friendly – Salt Rock
With three young children, a family-friendly kitchen was imperative for the Coningham family. Owner Tamin says she particularly loves the table with wrought iron legs, which can be moved for cleaning purposes. The cushions are also removable and easy to clean. “I had an ‘old-fashioned’, closed-off kitchen and always felt lonely cooking while everyone was out socialising. This way I am able to chat to my family and friends, and have the kids do their homework, while I’m there with them.” Tamin says she was completely blown away with the concept designer Lisa Adams from Calzan Creations came up with. BATHROOM BEAUTY

Luxurious comfort – Simbithi Eco Estate
The Hill family’s beautiful, oversized main bathroom has all the things dreams are made of! Designed by Tracy Levinson of LevEco architects and Lisa Clelland of Lisa Clelland Designs, the beautiful, spacious design is perfect for the Hill family of six. Owner Candice says the goal was to honour the main bedroom in a spoiling kind of way. “We didn’t want to hold back. We wanted space (no bumping into each other), functionality, comfort, light and luxury.” One of the key features is a rimless shower that flows from an indoor to outdoor shower. There is also a functional dressing island with lift up vanity for hairstyling accessories and marble tiles throughout. There are also plenty of built-in cupboards with pull-out shoe shelves, to finish it off perfectly. Bold beauty – Salt Rock
The guest loo in the Coningham family’s Salt Rock home is a beautiful, bold, head-turning creation. Designed by Lisa Adams from Calzan Creations, the dark colours and fun peacock wallpaper make this a space anyone would be happy to show off to visitors. The beautiful, wooden counter was custom-made for the bathroom and the bright pops of pink and purple from the orchid and hand towels warm up the feel of the room. The Coningham family home is listed with Luxury Coastal Escapes, a high-end luxury holiday rental company, where beautifully finished rooms like this are a must.
