Daniel Duminy is making a name for himself on social media at just 18 years old…

From travel vlogs to behind-the-scenes music shoots, former Ballito boy, Daniel Duminy is quickly making a name for himself as a social media influencer and turning social media into a successful career at just 18 years old…

Daniel’s love for film and recording videos began when he started dabbling with a GoPro and learning video editing software at the age of 10. By the age of 15 he was sharing his content on YouTube. Now Daniel has more than 33 000 Instagram followers and the number keeps growing.

“I didn’t really know what theme the videos would take on, but my first video was a kissing prank that did quite well! As I’ve matured though I’ve started focusing on a lot more entertainment and more inspiring stuff,” says the ambitious teenager.

Daniel has since shot a number of vlogs for rappers, rubbed shoulders with the who’s who of the entertainment industry and often jets off overseas to review latest products, which he showcases on his Instagram page.

When he is not behind the camera you can find Dan on the race track. The former Hilton college pupil started homeschooling at the age of 14 to pursue his other passion – a professional career in go-kart racing – which also gave him the flexibility to focus on film. Earlier this year Dan was selected from more than 120 applicants from around the world to race in the 2018 Audi Sport TT Cup.

“I document what I do on a day-to-day basis via a camera and a record button and share it on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube and twitter. While I do focus on myself, I also do behind-the-scenes video work and photography for a couple of local musicians.”

With the diversity of his audience on Instagram, Daniel says he is inspired to create content that is entertaining and that could be funny to a 13-year-old, but also enjoyed by the child’s parents.

Daniel earns his income from the work he does for artists, his YouTube channel and doing paid advertisements for a couple of local and international brands.

Apart from having met a few big names in the entertainment industry, including Skrillex and Justin Bieber, Daniel says his career highlight to date has been being recognized by fans.

“I was in a mall and this girl came to me while my mom and I were having coffee and just stared at me for like five seconds and then said, ‘oh my word, you are actually the Real Dan Duminy’. It was so funny.”

Daniel believes his success comes from the fact that he is ‘real’ in front of the camera, and doesn’t care what others think of him. He says he is passionate about sharing his knowledge on producing content and growing a platform.

“My advice to aspiring influencers who want to build a professional look for their account and organically increase the number of followers they have is firstly to fill their bio with all the right information. This includes your contact information, what you post about and where you’re from. Add in a few keywords and even a couple of hashtags to ensure you’re easily findable by the right kind of followers. Post regularly to grow numbers. Take great photographs and use relevant hashtags to get your images seen. Finally, make time every single day to engage with your followers or anyone involved in your industry by commenting on and liking images.”

Dan says being around successful musicians and people in general inspires him on a daily basis and credits his success to his parents and close friends who are his biggest supporters.

“I’m really excited about the rate at which my Instagram followers are growing. It’s so encouraging to get such nice comments on my photos and make some awesome connections with my followers.”

When Daniel isn’t working he’s usually creating content, whether it is with friends, family or just doing whatever he is doing. “You know, I’m just going where God takes me. I’ve always loved inspiring making an impact on people.”
