Organic greatness
The Simple Truth is our new favourite (honest) obsession. Would we lie to you? This guilt-free range (we’re talking organic and vegan, gluten- and sugar-free) is really delicious. There’s loads to choose from … turmeric noodles (top with a simple tomato and basil sauce and that’s meat-free Monday sorted), a lovely crunchy toasted berry, gluten-free muesli and rusks, as well as organic alternatives to your pantry staples (peanut butter, raw honey and coconut sugar). We are obsessed with the reduced sugar Coconut Cookies, and the Skinny Dipped Roasted Almonds are our go-to nibbles when we’re peckish. New and exclusive to Checkers stores. Dreamy vanilla…
A moist vanilla torte layered with chantilly cream and topped with fine white chocolate shavings . . . um, yes please! Chateau Gateaux’s newest addition, Vanilla Dream, is the perfect way to end off a meal or simply enjoy with a great cup of coffee. Details: www.chateaugateaux.co.za

Statement shoes
We are super excited and a little fascinated by Saint & Summer’s autumn/winter 2019 collection. Stylish and comfortable, their range of platform-style embellished sneakers are especially eye-catching. They also have an impressive range of mules and block heels in a variety of colours. Sneakers from R799. Details: www.saintandsummer.co.za / 031 562 1213

Summer feels
It may be mid-autumn, but we’re still enjoying alfresco dinners on warm, balmy evenings and light salads for hot midday lunches. The new Paul Cluver Sauvignon Blanc 2018 is spectacularly clear and bright with a hint of green and clean, refreshing flavours (think passion fruit, grapefruit, gooseberry and blackcurrant). And it’s the perfect partner for fresh seasonal salads, light meat dishes and cheese platters. Buy directly from the Tasting Room for R110 a bottle, or at select outlets. Details: www.cluver.com.

Pretty in pink
Our patio plant pick of the month is the beautiful Pelargonium Kariba ‘Large Pink Eye’. Adding autumn colour to the patio with huge, glowing pink blooms that stand out against the dark leaves, this is a great plant for dressing up an outdoor dining area or as a colour-pick-me-up for a dull corner indoors. Indoors plants need plenty of bright light and as patio plants they like morning sun and afternoon shade. Nourish with a liquid fertiliser once a month and your plant will reward you with more flowers, especially if you diligently remove the old ones. Details: www.ballstraathof.co.za
