Day spas are wonderful and there certainly is a time and place for indulgent ‘steam-and-cream’ facials. But if you’re serious about having healthy, rejuvenated skin and reducing the effects of ageing, then this Ballito gem is worth a visit.

While most of us focus on eating healthy, doing juice cleanses and taking up the latest exercising fad, we often forget to properly care for what is ultimately the largest organ in the body, our skin.

The clinic is modern and inviting and even the most apprehensive of clients will feel comfortable within minutes of meeting the very bubbly Doris. She is friendly and light hearted and because your first consultation includes an in-depth discussion about the history of your skin and health, you can’t help but feel like you are in good hands.
Skin Evolution offers a range of body treatments including eyes and eyebrows, hands and feet, waxing and threading and professional and permanent makeup, but their main focus is on the skin – and they take it seriously.
During my visit I had a light chemical peel (my first one ever) and a pedicure. Both were done at the same time, meaning I could get in and out in an hour and get on with my day.
The peel I had was a Meseostetic mesopeel melanostop, which Doris assured me was on the lighter scale of facial peels and perfect for a first-timer. If you’ve never had one, peels leave your skin feeling soft and smooth, reduce fine lines, improve the appearance of scars and reduce age spots and dark patches, amongst many other things. The one I had focussed on hyperpigmentation and photoaging and the whole experience was professional, comfortable and relaxing. The treatment rooms are clean, modern and fitted out with cutting edge skincare technology and I enjoyed taking a moment out of my day to lie back and be pampered. There was absolutely no burning or discomfort during my peel and absolutely no dry skin or flaking afterwards. The pedicure was also pleasant and enjoyable.
Also part of the Skin Evolution team is medical practitioner Dr Nic Coetzer, who has a special interest in aesthetic medicine. He offers Botox, dermal fillers, peels, platelet rich plasma, redermalisation and mesotherapy, collagen induction therapy, vein removal and men’s health.
