We had a phenomenal response to our Caxton Snapshot of the Neighbourhood competition. The judges – our Canon professionals – had a tough time selecting a winner … but here it is!

For the Ballito/Umhlanga Snapshot winner, the judges chose this image taken by Ballito father Dean Grobler who titled his photograph, ‘Watching my son rise while my son watches the sunrise.’ We got to know Dean a little better . . .

Please tell us a bit about yourself and your family:  I live in Ballito and I own and run a small IT business. I am married and have a three-year-old old son.
When did you discover your interest in photography? I have always been interested in photography, but really started to pursue my passion in the last few months.

Tell us about the inspiration behind this photograph? It was really just a spontaneous shot, which I took on the beach with my cell phone and edited.

What are your favourite things to photograph? My family, friends and landscape.

What do you love about living on the North Coast? It is one of the most beautiful places on earth and love the laid back lifestyle

What a prize!
Dean Grobler won a Canon PowerShot SX540 HS worth R3999. He’ll be able to use his camera to really zoom into his shot as it has a 50x ultrazoom with ultra-wide angle. It doesn’t only take some stunning photos … it’ll even record short clips (in full HD) with playback effects. This connected bridge camera allows for flexible shooting and easy framing (in fact it can be as simple or advance as you like). It’s ideal to get snapping on holidays and at special occasions … and it’s sure to help him capture memorable moments effortlessly.
