A decade of Recruiting Success

It’s not often you walk into a family-owned business where a step-mom and daughter run the show in perfect harmony – for the past ten years at that.

In 2010 Jolene, Helen and John moved provinces and embarked on a new journey in their lives to start RecruiTech, an Umhlanga based company specializing in IT and Freight recruitment. Originally from Gauteng, this family team combined their diverse skills to create a dynamic partnership!

Jolene has been in the recruitment industry for over 20 years and first moved to Durban in 2003 where she lived for the work life balance that the coast is renowned for. She encouraged her dad, John and step-mom, Helen to join her in starting her dream of her own business. She knew that between them, they had the skills to start and manage a business. Jolene is passionate about her work and the strategic approach it requires.

Helen comes from a strong operational background and is efficient, detail orientated and methodical. She is the glue that holds RecruiTech together! Her laugh is infectious and you can always count on her to keep things bubbly and fun!
John has a financial background having been in the treasury sector of banking most of his career. While he is not involved in the day to day running of the business, he assists in all strategic and financial decision making. He also brings some male influence into the all girl team!

Starting in 2010 at executive suites in Umhlanga, Jolene focused on IT recruitment and within a short space of time, RecruiTech moved offices and employed their first consultant. By 2012, the Freight division was born, and in 2014 RecruiTech became a Company. Their professionalism, specialized experience and invested interest in the recruitment industry continued.

Specializing in IT in KZN and Freight, nationally, RecruiTech has a team of 5 consultants whom Jolene is constantly training and upskilling. Helen has administrative support which helps ensure the recruitment process is streamlined and efficient.
The recruitment industry doesn’t come without its challenges.

“The brain drain in the IT space is real which makes finding the perfect candidate in a short skilled market difficult” says Jolene
“And then you are faced with operational challenges such as load shedding” adds Helen
Both Jolene and Helen state that not only are they faced with external challenges but internal ones too. Recruitment is one of ups and downs as we’re dealing with people who change their minds and while we are managing our clients and candidates’ expectations on the one side, we are also managing our consultants and ensuring they have the constant support they need. Jolene’s management style is very hands-on and she is involved in every aspect of her team’s recruitment process.

“Not only do we find the perfect career match for our candidates, we also spend time career counselling” says Jolene. “Sometimes candidates are not ready to move and by helping them unpack their situations, they might decide to stay where they are until they want to change roles for the right reason. Once they are ready, we strive to partner with them during the often stressful transition time”

RecruiTech’s aim is to provide a service to their clients bringing efficiency and industry knowledge as well as recruitment solutions which will help transform businesses. “We are a member of APSO” says Helen. This is the Federation of African Professional Staffing Organisations which regulates the recruitment industry in South Africa.
RecruiTech also believes that by partnering with their clients, they can assist in offering opportunities to candidates in a challenging market. Gabriel Malherbe, the Coastal Executive for First Digital, a First Technology Company who are the developers of the UKZN student app, offered RecruiTech the opportunity to advertise graduate vacancies on the app. RecruiTech also advertises senior roles for professionals on the app who are wanting to improve their career prospects by studying at the University. This provides another avenue of connecting candidates to clients.

As a team, Jolene and Helen believe that positive thoughts breed successful results. Attitude is everything and there is always a solution! This family has achieved their work life balance by staying in Ballito and enjoying all that the North Coast has to offer while at the same time managing a successful business.

“Many thanks RecruiTech. Again I have to thank you for not only quickly sourcing new opportunities but selecting what seems like bespoke opportunities designed for me rather than randomly sending me on interviews” – Warren

We are extremely pleased with the progress we are making as a result of our relationship with RecruiTech who have been instrumental in putting our IT development team together” – Leigh Morum, CEO CoSoft
