We all need different things at different times. Sometimes, for example, you need a facial to simply feel pampered and relaxed. Other times, though, you need one that is going to get stuff done on your skin – quickly and effectively. Our editor was recently invited to experience The Laser Beautique‘s Beau-Rejuve facial, which does exactly that.

Stopping in at a salon in the middle of the day, in the middle of a working week isn’t something we can all do. And, as I rushed into The Laser Beautique at the Ballito Junction for my facial appointment (five minutes late because, well, life!), I couldn’t help but feel a bit guilty and a bit unsettled. Most of the facials I’ve had in my life have been heavenly, super relaxing and quite time-consuming. They require you to really switch off from life for at least an hour, if not more. I introduced myself to my aesthetician, Trisha Khan. And, as she showed me to the room, I couldn’t help but ask, “um, roughly how long will the treatment take?”. “Oh, it’s quick,” she replied, “you’ll be done in half an hour.” I lay down, covered myself with a towel, and breathed a sigh of relief.

As I settled myself, Trisha explained a little about the treatment, as well as the specialised LED light therapy device and products she was going to use on my face.
“This treatment is like taking your skin to the gym. As we age, we lose elasticity and our skin produces less collagen and hyaluronic acid. Moisturisers and serums can only work within the surface layers, but Beau-Rejuve treatments promote circulation as well.”
Trisha first assessed my skin before deciding which brand of product (we decided on Optiphi) and which light colour to work with. There are seven different LED lights available and each one has a different focus area (red enhances collagen regeneration, green inhibits the over-production of melanin, blue kills off bacteria that causes acne, etc).

The actual treatment comprises a double cleanse and chemical exfoliation before the light is used with the special Hydraplus Gel (an ionised product). It’s completely painless (just a little tingling, buzzing feeling), and is followed by a moisturiser and quick relaxing massage. And that’s it!
Before I knew it I was dressed and, after quickly fixing my hair, I was back in action and ready to face the rest of my day. They say having a Beau-Rejuve treatment is like taking your skin to the gym and there are so many benefits: the EMS (Electrical Muscle Stimulation) stimulates facial muscles, bringing fresh oxygenated blood to both the muscles and skin, while the radio frequency helps stimulate collagen cells. The Light Emitting Diode (LED) eases redness, minimises ageing effects, treats sun damage, assists with stretch marks and helps with mild forms of acne. The Beau-Rejuve also uses Mesotherapy as a delivery system to open the pores and push the serums and moisturisers that you
use as a medium further down into the skin. After the treatment, your skin feels a little tingly (in a good way) and there is literally no downtime to affect your day. Well, except for that quick half and hour, which, let’s face it, is a pretty quick ‘gym session’ and totally worth it. The treatment is R300.
