Caddies, bar staff and waitrons working for Mount Edgecombe Country Club Estate’s (MECCE) golf courses and in its numerous bars and restaurants have been hit hard by the six-week and counting lockdown. In a heartfelt attempt to help them and their families through these tough times, MECCE’s management rallied residents and local businesses in the area to donate to a fund set up to assist these staff members during their time of need. In what can only be explained as overwhelming acts of kindness, and in just under a week, R180 000 had been collected to distribute to the staff in dire need of financial support!

Desiree Stone, CEO of Mount Edgecombe Country Club Estate says, “Although an absolute necessity, the lockdown obviously had a huge financial impact on our staff – many of which have been with us for years and are the breadwinners for their families. We are so appreciative and blown away by the donations that came pouring in from our residents and members which reaffirms the saying that ‘charity begins at home’. The much needed funds will go a long way in supporting our hardest hit staff and their families who already received initial monetary support from the club when lockdown started, but with the prolonged lockdown in place will need as much support as they can get.”
