Healthy eating and fitness have always been a priority for personal trainer and entrepreneur Candace Butler. Drawing from her years of experience in the health industry, she has a range of very yummy pre-packed smoothies that we are already massive fans of!

Candace developed all the Summa Smoothies recipes herself

Almost everyone loves a smoothie. Packed with all the healthy goodness you need to fill your tummy and satisfy your taste buds, smoothies are great for a quick breakfast, lunch on-the-go or a mid-afternoon snack. But making them can be messy and time consuming and not always very practical.

Enter the Summa Foods pre-packed smoothie range. Packed with goodness, super tasty and quick and easy to whip up … there is nothing not to love about them!
Having always been passionate about health and wellness, Salt Rock founder and owner of Summa Foods, Candace, started the range with the goal of offering people a healthy, convenient way to add vitamins and minerals to their diet.
Born and bred in KwaZulu-Natal, Candace says health has always been a priority in her life. “I worked for a few companies while trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, and that was when I fell in love with fitness and personal training. Being a personal trainer allowed me do the things I loved, while helping and motivating others achieve improved fitness and health.”

After running her own business for a few years, Candace took a position at top Umhlanga-based software development company, Derivco, as their personal trainer to staff and gym manager.
It was in her early twenties, Candace says, that she discovered how food could boost her fitness. But, she realised, eating healthy isn’t always convenient or easy.
“Our range allows people to have a freezer full of pre-packed smoothies, which they can rely on to give them their daily or weekly fruit and veg (and superfood) intake. It also alleviates some of the stress that comes with feeding fussy toddlers and planning meals when you have a busy schedule.”

Candace, who is a wife, mom, step mom and business owner, believes her range is perfect for a number of different target markets. These include on-the-go moms who are looking for convenient and affordable products, busy employees who work from 8am to 5pm and often rely on convenience food, health fanatics who hold their health in high regard and are keen to try new products to support their exercise workouts and individuals who live on their own and don’t always want to fuss with cooking for one.

Candace is particularly proud of her newly launched kids range. Each smoothie has a fun name and ‘personality’ that forms part of the ‘Super Squad’ team of healthy heroes. The range includes Mr Na-Na, Miss X-Strawdinary and Captain Cocoa-cool!

When it comes to the adult range Candace says the Nutty Choc is a firm favourite. And we can attest to its yumminess! The is simply the most delicious smoothie (it tastes like dessert), crammed with almond nut butter, banana, coconut milk, cacao nibs, dates, cinnamon, cocoa powder, chia seeds and almonds. So delicious.

The energizer smoothie, called Seeds the Day, is also a firm favourite – especially if you need a boost! It has a blend of beetroot, coconut, flax seeds, strawberries, ginger, berries, red apple and mint. Other flavours in the range include the Green Cleanse (great for cleaning our your gut), the Power Protein smoothie (to accompany your workout), the Flu Buster (so good for everyone right now when we need an immune boost) and the Kickstarter (which includes a sneaky caffeine kick!).

Candace developed all the recipes herself and the smoothies are made with top quality ingredients. Preparation and packaging are all done quickly to ensure freshness and everything takes place locally in Salt Rock, ensuring Candace remains at the helm of the production process.

When she’s not working on her business Candace enjoys spending time with her family, who are all active both in the gym and outdoors. “When I’m not enjoying the outdoors I love being in the kitchen, experimenting with different ingredients and recipes and cooking for friends and family.”
