There is something instantly relaxing about driving down towards Umdloti and turning into the heavenly, tree-lined Bellamont Road. Coming from either Ballito or Umhlanga, it feels like a little escape from the busyness of life. Similarly, as you walk down the long wooden deck towards the entrance of Hayahay Beauty Spa, you know you have arrived somewhere peaceful and very special.
Owned by Cecilia Davies, who is originally from the Philippines, Hayahay Beauty Spa first opened its doors in November 2019. Cecilia fell in love with South Africa and KZN after spending many years here with her late husband. A gentle soul by nature, Cecilia loves to see people happy, which is why she was inspired to create this luxurious haven of tranquillity and spoils. Tucked away in its forest-like setting, that is exactly what Hayahay is.
During my visit, I was invited to experience three different treatments: an express facial, a back and neck massage and a gel nail overlay. Each treatment was done by one of the three experienced and qualified therapists who work for Cecilia (all of whom are clearly passionate about what they do).
My first treatment was an express Dermalogica facial done by the lovely Zama. After taking some time to carefully examine my skin, Zama gave me a wonderful, luxurious treatment that left my skin feeling instantly glowing and packed with moisture. After the facial I was treated to a heavenly 30-minute back and neck massage by the lovely Cindy before being whisked off to the manicure and pedicure station for a gel overlay done by the ‘queen of nails’ Thembi.
Hayahay (which is the Filipino word for comfort, relax, breezy and refresh) has a wide range of treatments on offer, including a variety of facials, manicures and pedicures, as well as gel, acrylic and polygel nails. They also have a selection of massages to choose from, including hot stone, full body, back and neck, Indian head, Thai, body exfoliation, foot massages, sports massages and even couples’ massages on request and offer waxing, eyelash extensions and tinting. They also stock a wide range of products, including brands like Dermalogica, Heliocare and Be Bright collagen.
The ideal place to recharge and reconnect (either with yourself or with your friend or partner), Hayahay is a wonderful, secluded gem and definitely worth a visit!
