Ballito resident Sholain Perumal is a CEO, a philanthropist and a voice for women’s empowerment. She is raising the bar in the gold-buying industry, while simultaneously giving back to her community.
Driven by her passion to succeed and her purpose of helping people, Sholain has found a balance between being a philanthropist and a businesswoman. She believes that she truly can change the world, “one act of kindness at a time”.
Leading by example and grounded by her humble beginnings, Sholain is determined to leave a legacy of empowerment. Seeing herself as a strong and powerful woman, she uses her power to make positive change in society and encourages others to do the same. “We all have a voice and the power to use it. Sholain runs four successful businesses, one of which is a gold-buying business called The Gold Bar. She also recently embarked on a new journey of delivering motivational talks at schools and empowering young minds to dream big, strive for excellence and build a future for themselves.
During her talks, she encourages discipline amongst the learners and shows them, through her own personal experience, that you can start at the bottom and still work your way up. “Overcoming obstacles along the way is all a part of the growth process. I worked extremely hard in every job I had after matriculating to progress in life. I started my working career as a cashier in a supermarket at the age of 18 and am now the CEO of my own businesses.”
The Gold Bar is a gold recycling company, offering cash in hand for old, unwanted, broken gold jewellery. With six stores countrywide, The Gold Bar is fast becoming the preferred ‘gold recycler’ in SA.
Known to be a ‘company with a heart’, The Gold Bar is the driving force of Sholain’s ‘Now You Can’ charity foundation, which provided grocery hampers for people in need as well as care packs for abused women and children and various other initiatives.
This Spring, The Gold Bar is proud to be launching their very own COIN. It is based on Sholain’s goal of creating a legacy of empowerment and offers customers an affordable investment option. This coin represents The Gold Bar company as well as the ‘Now You Can’ charity foundation and is a constant reminder that through kindness, we can change the world.
