Sunshine & optimism…

After these strange times of lockdowns, zoom calls and uncertainty, we can’t help but think the beginning of Summer signifies the promise of better things to come! From lazy days in the sunshine to spontaneous evenings out with friends, here are the season’s fashion trends you need to know about.

Always stylish, on-trend and full of fun, Muze partners Wendy van Zyl and Stephanie Wilkes explore this years’ Spring/Summer trends … the mood, the feel and what you can expect to see in stores.

FROM MINIMALIST BASICS TO MAXIMALIST SHINE
Monochrome is one of the biggest trends for SS21. Black and white pieces give the feeling of renewal. This is a great way to approach minimalist, classic silhouettes and to build capsule wardrobes. We have had a lot of fun with this trend by introducing black and white gingham, which gives a feeling of youth, freedom and fun. Core, basic monochromatic pieces however still form the ‘backbone’ of capsule dressing. Bright bold pops of colour will also be high on the must-have list. From sunshine yellow to citrus orange and hot pink – it’s time to be bold and step out of your comfort zone! Jewel tones, specifically deep emeralds and greens, celebrate our local fauna and flora. At Muze, we are always inspired by nature and pops of green will always feature somewhere in all our collections. After a year spent social distancing from our own wardrobes, it’s time to let our clothes shine—quite literally. Who would have thought that sequins would feature in our current circumstances? But … think ‘relaxed-glamour ‘ and dress down the sparkle by adding a white tee or platform sneakers that will allow you to make use of your garment as all day wear.

OPEN BACKS AND BOLD SLEEVES
Nothing says ‘hello summer’ like a strappy dress. Cute, cami-style midi dresses or floaty, romantic bare backed maxi dresses, it’s the perfect way to show off a little (or a lot) of skin and welcome summer in with open arms. Voluminous, bold sleeves are here to stay and we are seeing them with tops and midi and maxi dresses. Whichever way you wear them, the motto for this season is ‘the bigger your sleeves, the better’.

LADY, WITH A TWIST
This season’s trouser shape of choice is a very relaxed silhouette. Wide hemlines and high-waisted ‘80s-style office trousers, wide leg jeans and cropped culottes are all back. These transition easily from day wear to evening wear by replacing a tee with a bodysuit and adding a strappy heel. Day-to-play! We apply the same concept to our wrap skirts, which are now part of our core range. For our SS21 range we have added a flirty ruffle to the skirt that shouts fun, fabulous and feminine. Still keep this low-key but luxe by pairing a tee or up-styling with a matching top to create an all-in-one ensemble. Pleated skirts are also high on the ‘must-have’ list.
