Was there a particular moment or experience that sparked this venture?<\/strong><br \/>\nIt all started with that post-match hug photo &#8211; three teammates in a moment of unity. Suddenly, people were calling us Bomalume &#8216;The Uncles&#8217;. That name stuck and got us thinking about legacy. We wanted to create something that lives beyond the pitch. Wine felt right, it brings people together and it celebrates life, love and culture. It wasn&#8217;t one glass or one moment, it was a feeling that grew into a vision.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How did your collaboration with Van Loveren come about, and what role did they play in bringing Bomalumz to life?<\/strong><br \/>\nWe connected with Van Loveren, the family behind Four Cousins, and there was instant chemistry. They got the vision and didn&#8217;t hesitate, they booked us in for harvest and gave us the full winemaking experience.<br \/>\nWe weren&#8217;t just signing off on labels, we were there, hands-on, blending, learning, tasting. They gave us the freedom to shape Bomalumz in our own way, while mentoring us through it. They didn&#8217;t just support us, they helped us become winemakers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Can you walk us through the creative journey?<\/strong><br \/>\nFrom day one, we knew we wanted wines that reflect who we are as players and as friends. Something proudly South African, expressive and fresh. So, we created three signature labels:<br \/>\n* Ole Ole Ole Ros\u00e9: That&#8217;s Trevor&#8217;s baby. It&#8217;s got subtle bubbles &#8211; lively, festive and full of energy, just like him.<br \/>\n* Kantlyn Sauvignon Blanc: Inspired by the hooker&#8217;s sideline throw, this one&#8217;s for Bongi. Its crisp, bright and knows how to stand out.<br \/>\n* Dark Arts Cab Merlot: Ox&#8217;s pick. Named after the unseen magic of the scrum, its gritty, powerful and layered.<\/p>\n<p>Each wine has a piece of us in it. Creating them was about blending taste, personality and tradition &#8211; just like we do on the field.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How has your camaraderie on the rugby field translated into your business partnership?<\/strong><br \/>\nIt&#8217;s all about trust, discipline and banter, the same things that carry us on the field. We know how to move as a team and we each bring something different to the table. No egos, just accountability and lots of laughs. One of us is into Stellenbosch reds, another&#8217;s all about Robertson&#8217;s crisp whites and someone&#8217;s always shouting for bubbles &#8211; we&#8217;ll let you guess who.<br \/>\nBut overall, we are inspired by how diverse South African wine is. There is so much to explore and celebrate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What&#8217;s your go-to snack or meal to enjoy with a glass of Bomalumz?<\/strong><br \/>\nBraai. Always. Think grilled meat, chakalaka and spicy wings, that&#8217;s the vibe. As Ox says, &#8220;Salads don&#8217;t win scrums,&#8221; so don&#8217;t expect greens.<br \/>\nThat said, Bomalumz works just as well with a sunset and a cheese board. It&#8217;s that versatile.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Who&#8217;s the biggest wine snob among the three of you?<\/strong><br \/>\nNo names&#8230; but there is one guy who swirls a little more than necessary and says &#8220;mouthfeel&#8221; way too often.<br \/>\nThat said, we balance each other out &#8211; one&#8217;s analysing aromas, another&#8217;s just saying, &#8220;This slaps.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you could invite any rugby legend &#8211; past or present &#8211; for a tasting, who would it be and what would you pour?<\/strong><br \/>\nWe&#8217;d invite uTat&#8217;u Chester Williams, a legend and a trailblazer.
