From a modest start in Durban, Harvey\u2019s Auto Body Repairs has grown steadily over the years \u2013 shaped by hard work, family involvement and a commitment to doing things properly.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Harvey\u2019s Auto Body Repairs began in 1967, when Herv\u00e9 \u201cHarvey\u201d Maingard and his wife, Liz, set up shop in a makeshift caravan office across from Kingsmead Stadium. It was humble, hands-on and built on sheer determination.<\/p>\n

Humble beginnings<\/strong>
\nHarvey was known for rolling up his sleeves and getting involved. His focus was simple: do the job properly, treat people well, and show up every day.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>A family effort<\/strong>
\nIt wasn\u2019t long before the business became exactly that \u2013 a family affair. In the late 90s, Nicole, Harvey\u2019s daughter, together with the support of her husband, Charles Barth, helped lead Harvey\u2019s into its next chapter. Throughout that journey, Phillip Coles, affectionately known to everyone as \u201cBallie\u201d, has remained a constant and respected presence, standing alongside Nicole for almost the entire journey. Having been with Harvey\u2019s since 1994, Phillip has served as Head Foreman and has become far more than just a senior member of the team. He is a true father figure within the business; someone who has trained, guided, and shaped generations of Harvey\u2019s staff with patience, pride, and years of experience. This includes Gerard Robertson, whom Phillip took under his wing when Gerard joined Harvey\u2019s as a youngster.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>More than just business<\/strong>
\nToday, the legacy lives on. For partner Gerard Robertson, it\u2019s deeply personal.
\n\u201cIt\u2019s more than just work; it\u2019s something that carries our family name,\u201d he says. \u201cThere\u2019s a real sense of responsibility, but also pride in building on what\u2019s already been created.\u201d<\/p>\n

Finding balance<\/strong>
\nRunning a business while raising a family isn\u2019t always seamless. \u201cYou have to be intentional,\u201d Gerard explains. \u201cBe present where you are \u2013 whether that\u2019s at work or at home. And trust the people around you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lessons in leadership<\/strong>
\nFatherhood has had a clear influence on how he leads. \u201cPatience, empathy, leading by example \u2013 those are things you learn at home, but they matter just as much in business. People do better when they feel supported.\u201d<\/p>\n
