For Salt Rock photographer Kathryn Rademeyer, the ocean is both workspace and subject.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Working under the name The Fisherman’s Wife, Kathryn’s photography is shaped by long hours in the water, where light, movement and the changing energy of the sea guide her approach.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"Growing up on the South Coast, her connection to the ocean began early and has stayed with her through surfing, kitesurfing and scuba diving.
\n“I’m never happier than when I’m in the water,” she says. Having recently returned to Salt Rock after 15 years abroad, she describes a renewed sense of freedom being back on familiar shores.<\/p>\n

Diving into her passion<\/strong>
\nHer path into water photography developed naturally alongside her work and her desire to travel. A turning point came when she responded to a residency at a surf house in Sri Lanka. Living and working there immersed her in both the technical and creative sides of shooting in the water. She spent hours each day in the ocean, producing imagery for clients as well as content for the surf house. That experience, followed by time shooting in Morocco, ultimately shaped the direction of her work.<\/p>\n

Shooting with intention
\n<\/strong>Early on, Kathryn worked with a GoPro, which she describes as limiting in terms of creative control. She now uses a full camera system housed in a specialised underwater casing, allowing her to approach each frame with greater intention and precision, shaping the image rather than simply capturing it.<\/p>\n

Presence over perfection<\/strong>
\nOn any given morning, she might swim out at sunrise and take time to observe before deciding how to shoot.
\n“I often find the best way is just to swim out and watch the sun come up over the sea,” she says. From there, her day unfolds naturally, moving between surfing, swimming and photographing, always anchored in the water.<\/p>\n
