The dream of owning her own bridal shop has always been Marcel‘s desire. At the start of 2019 her biggest wish became a reality.
“I started thinking about this idea when I got married in 2013. It was not so easy to get a wedding dress of good quality at a reasonable price, and that started me thinking about how I could deliver first-rate dresses at reasonable prices. The seed of one day having my own bridal shop was planted at that stage,” Marcel says. When a family member of Marcel got married last year, they started looking for dresses and came across the same problem Marcel had years ago. “That’s when I started making this dream become a reality.”
She opened her doors on 1 January 2020 and in February 2020 she bought Bettie Cornelissen’s business. “Bettie was a well-known designer and I’m very proud to say that I have all her dresses in stock.”
“To me, this business is a very personal accomplishment and I wanted to use my own name,” Marcel shares, “so I incorporated my initials in the business’s name, MC Bridal.”
The bridal shop has about 250 wedding dresses in stock of which none is the same. Sizes range from a size 6 to size 44. “Brides should choose MC Bridal as their go-to boutique when they start looking for a dress because apart from our big variety of dresses, we are also proud of our numerous veils and tiaras; all at reasonable prices.”
All brides-to-be have the option of buying a dress or renting it. The renting option is another plus when it comes to affordability. MC Bridal always puts the client’s needs first. “We are determined to make sure that all brides leave happy after having visited MC Bridal.” The rental fee for a dress starts at R3 500 compared to the price of a dress bought by the bride, which starts at R7 000.

Marcel caters for everybody, not only for brides from Bloemfontein. “My latest client was from Upington,” she says. “My business makes me happy and I love dressing the brides and seeing the smile on their faces when they find the right dress for their posture. That is very fulfilling for me. I truly believe that every girl or woman should feel spectacular on her wedding day without it costing her an arm and a leg.”
