Deon’s Ceronio practice, which provides quality scientifically funded products and therapy, was founded in 1997.
Deon’s love for audiology started from a very young age. He always wanted to be in an occupation where he could help people improve their lives. His passion for helping other people, comes from the role his grandmother played in his life. “When I was a little boy, my grandmother was an important part of my life. She taught me that it is important to care about other people and to help where possible. She was also involved in the community in many ways.”
What he enjoys most about his job, is helping people hear again. “I love helping people to enjoy the wonder of sound again. There is nothing more fulfilling than witnessing how someone who has lost his or her hearing is able to hear again.” He maintains the decision to become an audiologist was his best, with his worst decision being the fact that he did not make the best of opportunities and losing them.
Deon’s biggest inspiration is his patients. “My patients are people who are faced with a challenge and who have to find a way to overcome it. Communication with their families, at work and in their social circle, has become limited and they have to find a way to change it. I learn so much from them and they inspire me on a daily basis.”
Making his patients happy is more important than anything to Deon. “I am meticulous about my work. I always try to make a plan in order to ensure my patients’ problems are solved.”
In his free time Deon enjoys listening to music, travelling, spending time in the garden and singing in the Alumni Voices choir.
The best advice he has for someone starting out, is to care about every person. “Go the extra mile to make sure that each patient is happy. Excellent service is paramount.” Deon strongly believes that no one is too old to learn something new. If there is doubt in his personal life, he trusts in God to pull him through.
