Mari Reynolds came to Bloemfontein in 2006 to study B. Accounting at the University of the Free State. She met her husband, Alexander, while she was doing her articles.

They have been married for 10 years and are blessed with two children. She joined Central Media Group (CMG) as financial manager in 2014 and has since been promoted to financial director. Mari is responsible for preparing the financial accounts of the group while providing financial advice and guidance to achieve the objectives of the group.

“What I love most about my job is the work-life balance, being able to pick up my kids after school and chat about their day is priceless to me. I am able to achieve this because of the extremely competent team I work with.” Mari is well-informed about the entire operational system of the company. “What gives CMG the competitive edge is the group’s offering of a variety of media and entertainment solutions. OFM broadcasts in Central South Africa, Mahareng publishes the weekly edition of Bloemfontein Courant, and DigitalPlatforms offers web development services and digital marketing solutions.”

When asked about her thoughts on surviving the global pandemic, Mari reasons, “We have to take it day by day.” She explains her best decision ever as furthering her studies as it is something she has always desired to do. “The worst decision was contemplating and waiting for the right time to do something.” Most of the time she takes time off, goes into her studies. “When studying, I know I have time alone and I’m investing in myself and upskilling for the future.”

Mari’s tip to young female businesswomen: “Check that the daily decisions you take are in line with your core values”. She believes one should allow oneself some grace when everything is not going according to plan. “When we allow ourselves to ask for help when we have limited time or simply cannot do it, we are tapping into the strengths of other women, allowing all of us to learn from one another.”

Being mindful has always helped her to handle pressures and challenges. “By simply taking a breath and focusing on the present moment, I am able to treasure the little pleasures in life.”
