Marietjie Jacobs, an ex-physical science and biology teacher, had been a RE/MAX associate at RE/MAX FIRST, Bloemfontein for 15 years. Raised in a family of teachers, real estate presented itself to her in the early 90s while living in Pretoria. Both journeys have re-established her understanding of people’s needs to both learn and provide. “I learnt much on these paths, and I’m grateful how each has brought me profound wisdom. People yearn to grow and belong.”

Finding a home for families is exhilarating and something Marietjie finds great joy in. The fact that she has colleagues whom she can deem family just amplifies the love for her job. Marietjie is all about values. “People first. Let that be the business mantra. The rest will take care of itself. This philosophy is one I’ve lived by for many years – the personal joy it has brought, is a chapter in itself.”

When asked how she juggles business and family successfully, she jokingly says it becomes challenging when you have an insomniac child but somehow “strength always finds you”.
The best decision Marietjie has made was becoming a mom. Her two daughters are unique individuals, inspirational and funny. She says her worst decision ever must be the fancy 2020 year planner. Marietjie has been blessed to work among many strong women throughout her career and says a division between men and women has no place in the modern world. “I’m grateful to those who’ve chosen to act as trailblazers in this regard. Shared values and the desire to be of service to others, to my mind, brings business partners together.”

When asked what her tips to survive a pandemic are, she says, “love boundlessly, live a life of meaning to others, drink ginger-tea, forgive, meditate, shower-sing your favourite song in a way that your neighbours can’t help but hear. Gym. Jog. Call your parents. Skydive. Go vegetarian for a week. But mostly, have an attitude of gratitude… with vast amounts of Cal-C Vita…”
