Women on the Move: When clients become FRIENDS, Anso Vorster

Anso Vorster, sales manager of new and used vehicles at Volvo Bloemfontein, has been in charge of the so-called male dominated motor industry for the past 17 years. She still finds herself being excited about work every day. Seeing the joy on every customer’s face when receiving their brand new Volvo is priceless.

Anso is the definition of a people person, she loves working with others and serving her clients. “Most importantly for me, is that most of my clients become my friends. The Volvo brand has such a family environment, that’s why I love it so much.”

Anso’s advice to young women in any industry is to stay true to who they are, live their beliefs and to never hide behind anyone else. “Don’t go with the mainstream, live your dreams and be strong as a women in any environment.” She is also inspired by her sales team giving 100% of themselves every day. Even the pandemic hasn’t scared them off . “For our team it is all about family, we have created a great environment where we are all comfortable and can learn from one another.”

Anso tries her utmost best with every marketing campaign to involve and collaborate with local businesses as she feels this is the way to grow the local economy. When she is not taking the industry by storm, you will find her at home, cooking, spending time with her family or simply “just relaxing with a glass of red wine or a ‘lekker’ gin in my hand”.

She firmly believes that one of the best decisions she has made in her life is that of taking up the job at Volvo as it came on her path when she least expected it. “There are challenges but nothing that cannot be overcome through hard work and determination.”

As a woman with a full-time job, there is really a fine line between juggling work and family. Anso believes a mother is given a supernatural power to juggle her time perfectly. “It is very difficult when you are in the corporate world to take that little time off for your family and your children but here we are, doing it remarkably well.”

On the question of how she is coping during Covid-19, she wants to encourage everyone to be self-safe: “Wear your mask, make sure your work environment is safe. It starts with you, so take care of yourself.”
