Nadia von Maltitz is the director of Cuberoo, an award-winning marketing agency in Bloemfontein. Here she shares her inspirational story with Get It readers…

I grew up on a cherry farm outside Ficksburg. My dad is a wise man who farmed and has now retired along with my creative mother, who is an artist. My dad instilled business knowledge in me whilst my mother taught me creativity. They allowed us to be whatever we wanted to be and gave us a strong foundation with wings.

I dreamed of being a film director when I was a little girl. I love books, movies and escaping. If I could write and direct, I believed I could live 100 lifetimes.

I studied at the North-West University and did my post-grad at the University of Johannesburg in Strategic Marketing Communication. I worked in Johannesburg at DDB for clients like McDonalds, FNB and Telkom and was offered a job at my dream company, Ogilvy & Mather in Cape Town, with Volkswagen as a national client.

Bloemfontein is where I started my business, Cuberoo. My parents carried me through this and I moved back home to make this a reality.

I believe I haven’t reached even 10% of what I want to achieve; there’s so much more work to be done! I believe I have a calling to help businesses. We’re navigating a difficult era, but there are new digital opportunities and understanding these is key in thriving in the world of business in 2022.

Cuberoo stands for seeing you succeed as much as you want to succeed as a business owner. We’re essentially a business partner and we should know your business well enough to be able to walk in and be a valuable team member. If we market a business we do deep research and make sure we choose the platforms and messaging that align with your values.

Cuberoo takes an inside-out approach. We start by looking at your brand and see if it’s currently setting you up for further growth. We then look at your online presence to see if you’re standing out online and if you’re being represented well. We then proceed to your social media, email and digital marketing. Once this is in place, we choose traditional marketing channels that fit the company like radio, newspaper, billboards. In short, we do marketing strategy, logos, websites, social media and digital marketing.

Cuberoo is almost six years old and the highlights thus far have been getting our first client, winning Best of Bloem and best social media agency in South Africa, and getting the most amazing team in the world! We have a talented graphic designer, writer, photographer, junior designer and strategist. Plus, we’re opening our second office soon.

The advice I would give anybody planning to go into business is to keep going and get at least one person to be your cheerleader when things get hard. Don’t give up on things you’re passionate about, and ensure what you offer is of value to your clients.

When I’m not at the office, I’m pretty much the same person. I treat everyone the same and I work hard and get things done. I try to enjoy myself whether I’m at work or home. Small things make a day amazing – moving a meeting to a coffee shop you and your team/client haven’t been to, or attending an event we were marketing.

My fiancé, Wayne Ludick, and I are the same in the sense that we work incredibly hard but believe you shouldn’t let life pass you by! Our phones are always on and we work on weekends, but it doesn’t stop us from playing golf or going away on weekends. He’s very adventurous and even got me to go on motorbike trips with him.

The other significant ‘being’ in my life is Pesto. I’ve wanted a dog forever and he brightens up our lives! We joke and call him a teacup Labrador, but he’s a combination of a Scottish Terrier and a Chinese Cresset/Poodle.
