PHOTO: SUPPLIED<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ingredients and method as provided by Mama Alinah Marumo (serves 8):<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chocolate cake<\/strong><br \/>\n3 eggs<br \/>\n250ml castor sugar<br \/>\n50ml water<br \/>\n50ml Clover fresh full cream milk<br \/>\n50ml Clover Springbok unsalted butter<br \/>\n50ml cocoa powder<br \/>\n375ml cake flour<br \/>\n10ml baking powder<br \/>\n2ml salt<br \/>\n5ml vanilla essence<\/p>\n<p><strong>Filling and topping<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>10ml Kirsch liqueur<br \/>\n425g tin black cherries without stones, in syrup<br \/>\n750ml Clover fresh cream, whipped<br \/>\n200g dark chocolate, grated<\/p>\n<p><strong>Method<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Preheat your oven to 180\u00b0C.<br \/>\n2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Whisk eggs and sugar together until light and fluffy when preparing the cake.<br \/>\n3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Bring water, milk and butter to the boil. Mix in cocoa powder.<br \/>\n4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Add to egg and sugar mixture gradually, beating continuously.<br \/>\n5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Add boiling mixture and essence.<br \/>\n6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Pour into greased and lined 20cm round cake tins and bake for 25-30 minutes.<br \/>\n7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Leave in tins for a few minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool. Cut each layer horizontally into two.<br \/>\n8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 To assemble, mix liqueur with 125ml cherry syrup.<br \/>\n9.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Place one layer of cake onto a serving platter. Sprinkle with some of the cherry syrup.<br \/>\n10.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Cover with a thin layer of cream.<br \/>\n11.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Halve three quarters of the cherries. Place a third of the halved cherries on the layer of cream.<br \/>\n12.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Place a second layer of cake over this and repeat until the final cake layer has been used. Press layers down gently.<br \/>\n13.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Cover sides and top of cake with cream and sprinkle chocolate around the sides.<br \/>\n14.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Place drained whole cherries on top of cake.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip from the pro:<\/strong><br \/>\nTo coat the sides of the cake, place decoration such as chopped nuts, chocolate vermicelli or grated chocolate on a sheet of greaseproof paper.
