Being a mom is a full-time job, and one of the biggest challenges is finding the time \u2013 and energy \u2013 to maintain a sense of personal style. Between managing daily responsibilities and chasing after little ones, it\u2019s easy to fall into a routine of prioritising comfort over fashion. But who says you can\u2019t have both?<\/h3>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s about adapting and making it work for you.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Emily May, a style enthusiast and mum, has made it her mission to redefine motherhood fashion by blending practicality with effortless style. \u201cJust because we\u2019re mums now, doesn\u2019t mean we have to compromise on style and comfort,\u201d she says. By carefully selecting pieces that work for her lifestyle, she has created a wardrobe that is both functional and fashionable.<\/p>\n

Here are her top tips on how to dress stylishly as a mom \u2013 without sacrificing practicality.<\/p>\n

  1. Comfort is key<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    For Emily, comfort is the foundation of every outfit. \u201cAt the end of the day, that\u2019s the number one thing we all want when we\u2019re getting dressed as mums,\u201d she explains. \u201cWe want to be comfortable so that we can move easily through our day.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Comfortable jeans are a staple in her wardrobe. \u201cYes, comfortable jeans do exist!\u201d she says. She prefers jeans with a bit of stretch, which she often pairs with oversized shirts and chunky trainers or sandals. Aside from denim, she also loves wide-leg linen trousers, stretchy black flares, and knitted trousers. \u201cI can wear these trousers with any old T-shirt, vest top, or shirt, and it looks like I\u2019ve made a real effort \u2013 when I actually haven\u2019t!\u201d<\/p>\n

    Shoes are another crucial element. For winter, Emily swears by chunky trainers or flat boots with good support and grip \u2013 ideal for chasing after a toddler. In the summer, she opts for Birkenstocks or chunky black sandals.<\/p>\n

    1. Embrace white, fearlessly<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Many mums avoid wearing white due to the inevitable spills and stains that come with parenting, but Emily doesn\u2019t believe in limiting her wardrobe. \u201cWhoever said white isn\u2019t for mums is just lazy with stain removal,\u201d she laughs.<\/p>\n

      She has a simple solution: keep a stain removal bar and a toothbrush in the laundry room for quick clean-ups. When out and about, she relies on baby wipes as an emergency stain remover. \u201cBaby wipes are fantastic at getting rid of stains, so if something happens while you\u2019re out, grab some water and a wipe!\u201d<\/p>\n

      1. Accessories are your best friend<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Accessories can instantly elevate even the most basic outfits. \u201cYou can wear jeans and a T-shirt, but adding accessories makes all the difference,\u201d Emily says.<\/p>\n

        Her go-to accessories include hoop earrings, a pendant necklace, and dainty rings. She has even simplified her routine by wearing the same pieces daily. \u201cI keep my diamond necklace and small huggies on at all times \u2013 even in the shower and to bed. It\u2019s such an easy way to skip the hassle of taking things on and off in a rush.\u201d<\/p>\n

        Other must-haves include stylish tote bags, sunglasses \u2013 \u201cperfect for hiding tired eyes\u201d \u2013 and hats, which she describes as \u201ca quick way to make any basic outfit look effortlessly cool\u201d.<\/p>\n

        1. Build a versatile wardrobe<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

          A well-curated wardrobe saves time and makes getting dressed easier. Emily focuses on pieces that can be mixed and matched seamlessly. \u201cIf you choose one T-shirt, it should easily pair with any of your trousers, and vice versa,\u201d she advises.<\/p>\n

          She emphasises quality over quantity, investing in neutral basics, layering pieces like overshirts, and throw-on dresses. \u201cDresses have been a game-changer for me,\u201d she shares. \u201cI mostly wear midi and maxi dresses since they\u2019re practical for running after my son. If I do wear a mini dress, I pair it with nude anti-chafing shorts for extra coverage.\u201d<\/p>\n

          1. Self-care through fashion<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

            While it\u2019s easy to overlook self-care when prioritising kids, Emily believes that dressing well can positively impact mental health. \u201cOur outfits have a huge impact on our mood,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

            Loungewear is one area where many mums compromise, but Emily encourages putting effort into at-home outfits. \u201cJust because you and your kids are the only ones seeing you doesn\u2019t mean you shouldn\u2019t feel good in what you\u2019re wearing,\u201d she says. \u201cA matching loungewear set can make you feel cute and put together \u2013 even if you\u2019re just at home.\u201d<\/p>\n

            The same applies to activewear. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing wrong with wearing activewear throughout the day, but I try to make it look intentional,\u201d she explains. Adding a cap, ribbed socks, and an oversized sweater can make a casual outfit feel more polished.<\/p>\n

            1. Stay true to your style<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

              Ultimately, the key to dressing well as a mum is staying true to your personal style. \u201cMotherhood doesn\u2019t mean losing your sense of fashion,\u201d Emily insists. \u201cIt\u2019s about adapting and making it work for you.\u201d<\/p>\n

              She encourages mums to have fun with their outfits and wear what makes them happy. \u201cIf you love white, wear white. If you love accessories, pile them on. Don\u2019t be afraid to express yourself through fashion \u2013 because when you feel good in what you\u2019re wearing, it reflects in everything you do.\u201d<\/p>\n

              With Emily\u2019s tips, dressing stylishly and practically as a mum is entirely possible. By focusing on comfort, embracing versatility, and adding small but impactful details, you can create a wardrobe that not only looks great but also works seamlessly with your busy life.<\/p>\n
