Raised in a steadfast family where failure was never an option, Dr Marileen embodies resilience. \u201cMy passion to support mothers in helping their children thrive is one of the many things that drives me forward,\u201d she says. This determination was tested during a challenging period when her family faced a battle with cancer. \u201cThe experience taught us the true value of community, faith, and support,\u201d she recalls, emphasising the importance of standing together in tough times.<\/p>\n
In the operating theatre, clad in her theatre scrubs, Dr Marileen feels most empowered. \u201cIt represents the space where I feel most empowered, focused, and fulfilled,\u201d she notes. Outside work, she cherishes cycling with her family and long walks with friends to recharge. As a self-proclaimed \u201cboy-mum\u201d, she never leaves home without plasters, quipping, \u201cA simple plaster can work magic on most tears and tumbles\u201d.<\/p>\n
Balancing her demanding career with family life, Dr Marileen prioritises organisation and self-care. \u201cTaking care of myself and spending quality time with loved ones allows me to show up with the love, compassion, and empathy that my patients deserve,\u201d she says.
