Image supplied.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For Warren,\u00a0Food Trail: South Africa\u00a0is more than a television series \u2026 it\u2019s a return to the country that shaped his earliest food memories. Born in South Africa and raised in a family where cooking was a shared language, Warren later trained at\u00a0Le Cordon Bleu\u00a0in Sydney, Paris and London before building a successful career as a recipe developer, food stylist and culinary storyteller.<\/p>\n<p>Filming the series brought him full circle.\u00a0\u201cComing home to make this show felt incredibly special,\u201d\u00a0he says.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve travelled and cooked all over the world, but there\u2019s something about South Africa. From the bustling Oranjezicht Market and spice\u2011laden kitchens of Bo Kaap to mussel foraging along the Cape Coast, Pinotage tastings in the Winelands, and sunset potjies in the Kalahari, the series captures the breadth of South Africa\u2019s culinary landscape.<\/p>\n<p>Warren describes the experience as\u00a0\u201ca reminder of just how diverse this country is not only in its food, but in its people and landscapes. One day you\u2019re cooking fish on a cliff overlooking the ocean, the next you\u2019re learning Zulu recipes in a rural village or baking Koeksisters in the Union Building gardens. It\u2019s impossible not to fall in love with South Africa all over again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Other highlights include Bunny Chow explorations in Durban, Shisa Nyama feasts in KwaZulu\u2011Natal, Amarula\u2011spiked desserts in Kruger, and a Soweto tuk\u2011tuk tour ending with Warren\u2019s take on Chakalaka.<\/p>\n<p>Warren\u2019s cookbook,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.penguinrandomhouse.co.za\/product\/food-trail-south-africa-5993799\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Food Trail South Africa<\/a>, is available nationwide, allowing viewers to recreate the dishes they see on screen. Every recipe featured throughout the season appears in the book, from Braai Mielies with spiced butter and Durban\u2011style Bunny Chow to Dombolo with spiced fried chicken, Peppermint Crisp ice\u2011cream sandwiches, chocolate vinegar puddings, South African pavlova and his signature chocolate milk tart.\u00a0\u201cThe cookbook is really an invitation,\u201d\u00a0Warren explains. \u201cI wanted people to feel empowered to cook these dishes at home, not just admire them on TV.
