For Katja, the journey to Bloemfontein began with a bold decision. In 2023, she left Germany behind and moved to South Africa, a step that would reshape both her life and career. By February 2024, she had taken on the role of programme manager for a vocational education partnership between Germany and South Africa at Motheo TVET College.<\/p>\n
Passionate about the power of education, Katja believes vocational training can transform lives by equipping young people with practical skills and opening doors to employment. The partnership she helps lead, strengthens collaboration between colleges, industry and government to create more opportunities for students.<\/p>\n
What makes her work especially meaningful is seeing the impact on real people. \u201cIf our work helps even a few young people build successful careers, then I know we\u2019re making a meaningful difference,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n
Having lived and worked in both Germany and South Africa, Katja values the strengths of both cultures: German structure and planning, alongside South African resilience, creativity and community spirit.<\/p>\n
Moving to South Africa was the defining moment in her career. Leaving everything familiar behind taught her growth often begins outside your comfort zone.<\/p>\n
Katja measures success in people, not titles. The messages from students who say, \u201cThank you, you made a difference in my life,\u201d mean more to her than any award.<\/p>\n
Outside work, she recharges through running, yoga and quality time with her husband and daughter.<\/p>\n
Her advice to young women is simple: \u201cDo your own thing. Don\u2019t wait until you feel ready. Stay curious and say yes to opportunities that challenge you.\u201d Her perfect way to end the day is with a sunset run on Naval Hill.<\/p>\n
