As director of NSVT Consultants, Lorato Tigedi’s journey began with a passion for conservation while studying at the University of the Free State. Her first role as a junior environmental consultant introduced her to environmental consulting, where she discovered the field that would shape her career.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was there that I realised the impact environmental consulting has in balancing conservation with development and shaping sustainable outcomes \u2026 I like to think of it as being a superhero in a green cape.\u201d<\/p>\n
Whether she’s conducting site inspections in full PPE, facilitating community meetings or reviewing technical reports, no two days are ever the same. \u201cI treat every project as if it is my last, giving each project the same level of commitment, attention to detail and professionalism.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lorato is passionate about mentoring the next generation of professionals, believing that sharing knowledge helps build a stronger industry for everyone.<\/p>\n
\u201cI do not believe in gatekeeping information. Environmental consulting can be a difficult industry to enter and navigate, so I share lessons learnt, opportunities and practical advice wherever I can because someone did the same for me.\u00a0 Hence, I have been involved as a mentor for students in the Environmental Management and Sciences field with different programmes and institutions for the past 10 years.\u201d<\/p>\n
For young women pursuing a career or business, Lorato encourages them to seek support and remember they do not have to do everything on their own. \u201cMentorship and coaching are invaluable. Study the business or profession that interests you so that you can avoid some of the pitfalls others have already experienced.\u201d<\/p>\n
Away from work, you’ll most likely find Lorato in sneakers, enjoying a glass of red wine, reconnecting with family and friends or challenging someone to a board game.<\/p>\n
