Home Old School Charm

Old School Charm

One of the first homes to be built in Sheffield Beach, the Vogt home oozes character, charm and breath-taking views of our coastline.

Bought and renovated by well-known golf course designer Peter Matkovich in 1985, the five-bedroom home has a number of unique features that add to its classic charm. Owners Craig and Louise bought the home in August 2017. Louise owns Luxury Coastal Escapes, a coastal holiday letting company that offers the opportunity to book holidays in some of the finest North Coast homes. We asked Louise a few questions about her beautiful family abode…

1 What was your vision when you first saw the home?
Our vision was to restore the home as sympathetically as possibly, while still keeping it practical and suitable for holiday rental guests.

2 Can you tell us about some of the changes you’ve made over the past year?
We have done a lot of redecorating and we have a full-time painter who comes in every day just to paint, fill and plaster etc. We added a fifth bedroom ensuite, covered our front veranda with a white pergola and upgraded the security. Because we both have our own businesses and run them from home, we also created two spaces for our offices. The garden landscaping is underway and we have plans for a wine cellar under the stairs.

3 What do you love about this home?
It’s such an incredible family home. Maintaining its old school charm by ensuring it is sympathetically restored is our primary goal. We love it when the home is full of the noises of happy family and friends, the incredible view of the coastline to Durban from our bedroom and living spaces, and the many comfy and quiet spots to relax in. We also have a great big entertaining space for our friends and family to gather, which we actually used for our wedding earlier this year. Those memories created in our home will never fade.

4 How have you adapted your home to become a business for you?
From the start we wanted the house to be a model for the perfect beach holiday home and to make a template to showcase my ideas from storage to decorating and hospitality techniques as well as making a comfortable and welcoming family home.
