Baking a difference…

“If they keep fighting, I’ll keep baking.” This is young Chelsey’s message to all children who are fighting cancer. In light of International Childhood Cancer Day on 15 February, Chelsey has decided to become a ‘cupcake angel’ for the non-profit organisation Cupcakes of Hope, which supports and raises funds for families fighting childhood cancer.

Although she doesn’t suffer from cancer-related illnesses herself, Chelsey (who attends Beaches Primary School) was inspired to help out when she heard about the Cupcakes of Hope baking challenge in November last year, which managed to raise in excess of

R12 000 at the Woolworths Ballito Junction. Chelsey baked and iced 150 cupcakes herself and members of the public bought the cupcakes for a R10 donation towards the charity.

Now, with childhood cancer day around the corner, Chelsey is taking on her first Cupcakes of Hope baking challenge for the year by hosting a Cupcakes of Hope fundraiser, and she is calling on other North Coasters to do the same.

Chelsey is involved in helping sick kids celebrate their cancer milestones and birthdays and the money she helps raise will continue to help these children fight cancer.

In a bid to encourage people to become cupcake angels and host their own party of hope, KitchenAid is giving away a mixer valued at R10 000 to one lucky winner! Anyone can take part and your party can be hosted at a school, office or local community centre.
