We don’t really need an excuse to pop open a bottle of our favourite bubbly. But as it’s May, and Mothers’ Day, and autumn … we have three reasons to celebrate. This month we’re sipping Krone Rosé Cuvée Brut 2018 Cap Classique. A blend of 87 per cent Pinot Noir and 13 per cent Chardonnay, this salmon pink cap classique is all rose water and coastal sour figs, pomegranates and cranberries, candied orange and white-fleshed nectarine, with a lingering note of toasted hazelnuts. It’s just perfect with a simple picnic (think charcuterie, melted ripe Camembert and a crusty sourdough bread), or a more refined meal like salmon with crispy skin crackling, or duck with cherries. If you prefer something a little sweeter, try Krone Night Nectar Demi-Sec Rosé 2018 … the closest in style to the first famous sparkling wines of France a century ago. With a touch of sweetness which renders the style demi-sec (or semi-sweet) it’s a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, is a lustrous pink-copper, and all cranberries, raspberries, strawberries and red cherries, maraschino cherries and toffee apples … beyond delish! Have it with prawns grilled on the hot coals, with a sticky pork belly, with a strawberry cream cake or a plate of rose water macarons. Swoon! You’ll find both these at your local wine store or grocer for around R150 a bottle. We’re giving away a case of Krone to one Get It reader … simply visit Get It Magazine on Facebook, find our post and tag a friend in the comments section. The competition closes end May. Good luck.
