Make summer more bearable by wearing fabrics built for the heat. Cotton, linen, viscose and silk are summer friendly fabrics that are essential for your summer wardrobe.

Lightweight fabrics are a pleasure to wear in the summer heat. Stylishly feminine flowing dresses, full skirts with flirty crop tops and airy scarves all have a place in your summer ensemble. Choose your fabric wisely and don’t limit your selection to cotton and linen fabrics; try silk and viscose as well. Silk is ideal for draped designs and a relaxed fit, and while it may not be the most breathable fabric in the world, it’s what you’ll wear for a special occasion, like a summer wedding or an outdoor event. Viscose fabric clothing is a good choice for hot and humid climates.

Always opt for natural fibres over synthetics. Lightweight fabrics are breathable, comfortable and hypoallergenic, making them ideal for people who have high skin sensitivity.  Natural fibres allow your skin to breathe and ward off the heat.

Cotton: This is a soft, moisture-absorbing fabric that is breathable and is available from semi-sheer to opaque.

Linen: Another moisture-absorbing, breathable fabric that softens with each wash.

Silk: Beautifully soft and cool to the touch, silk has a natural sheen but is less breathable than cotton or linen.

Viscose:  Drapes beautifully and is breathable like cotton, smooth like silk and can be dyed easily in vivid colours.

The golden rule is to stick to lightweight fabrics. These tend to be sheer, soft and silky. Heavier cloths, even if made of natural fibres will make you sweat. The ideal is to choose fabric that weighs no more than 100g/m2. Always check the weave of the fabric, the more breathable cloth is made with fine threads in a loose weave.

When it comes to colour stick with science – lighter colours are better at beating the heat because they are better able to reflect light.

Opt for looser cuts and shapes rather than body-hugging silhouettes. You don’t want anything to hinder the air circulation. A lightweight dress makes the perfect summer look and will keep you cool and comfortable in rising temperatures.
