Watching the sun go down Durban Style

Being able to enjoy a sunset on any clear evening is one thing, but taking it all in over cocktails, while listening to live tunes, makes it a whole new experience… And this is why we are thrilled that the first Tiger’s Milk in KZN has opened its doors at the Suncoast Boulevard on Marine Parade. Killer burgers, pizzas and ice-cold craft beers are their weapons of choice, and they like to pair them with a good vibe. With loads of events and plans in the pipeline, this awesome sunny location is set to offer patrons a completely unique and nostalgic experience. Loads of week days and weekend specials and live DJ’s who will ease you into unwind mode. Head to the Tiger’s Milk Facebook page (@TMSuncoast) where you’ll find all the juicy deets.

Decorating our fingers, upcycled style

From Perspex and wood to steel and epoxy inlays laced with crushed coffee beans, shells and semi-precious stones, we are totally in love with these upcycled rings by Barker Designs. Created in the comforts of his home workshop, Justin Barker sold the rings he made for himself right off his fingers from day one, and now has a waiting list of orders from friends and fans who’ve spotted his work on social media. His original designs incorporated mixed mediums like Perspex and wood, but he’s having a blast experimenting with bands lathed from stainless steel which he finishes with all kinds of fun-filled bits and pieces in an epoxy inlay… You name it… he’ll add it! The rings are priced individually and are utterly unique. Follow Justin on Instagram: @barker_designs18 or contact him on 082 494 8732.

WIN: One lucky reader can win a custom perspex ring from Barker Designs.

Spicing up our dinner plates

Recently we were hand delivered a trio of sauces by the most delightful gentleman, Mario Rui Da Costa, who is the face behind Mario’s, a range of lip-smacking, flippen lekker sauces that are made in a South African kitchen, to send you on a Portuguese taste adventure… and we have to admit… they’re undeniably delicious. In his 60s, Mario is a seasoned home cook who also makes mouth-watering fresh meals to order. His sauces, that are to die for, are made from fresh ingredients, sourced from local markets as well as his garden. Mario’s biggest motivation is to deliver the best experience and give people value for money. Priced from R55 to R99 a bottle, his sauces come in flavours like the Lipsmacker, Flippen Laka, Jalapopit Like Its Hot, Habba Habba, Inferno, and limited editions like Hellovaskrik and Eish!Bomba Da Bum.

Choosing wholefood

There’s growing support in health and culinary circles for farm to table produce.  It’s all about eating wholefood, minus the preservatives, pesticides and other nasties added to foods to give them shelf-life.  In pursuit of sourcing the best nature has to offer, we discovered Founder Foods tucked away at 2 Village Road Kloof.  You’ve got to see it to believe it … pure honey and olive oil on tap, gorgeous spices with aromas that will take your breath away, a range of legumes, flours and seeds. Organic and locally sourced fresh fruit and veggies, free range eggs, and a range of dried fruit that made us feel we were in a candy store! We were impressed … with fresh sourdough breads on Saturday mornings and a host of other fresh, organic and gluten free products  with convenient links to online recipes, you simply have to go take a look for yourself! Details: www.founderfoods.co.za

WIN: In conjunction with Founder Foods, we’re giving away a R400 voucher and a meal kit.
