A splash of Spring

We just love Spring. Especially when it comes to home décor. Change has happened, the weather is warming up and the trees have begun to blossom. It’s the perfect time to freshen things up! Interior designer and real estate agent Andrew Home (how apt!?) shares some secrets for Spring home improvement projects you can do during lockdown.

It was after a long stretch in the apparel market that Andrew’s flair for colour, cloth and clothing evolved into fabrics, furnishing and interior finishes. He started delving into home upgrades and soon started working on the commercial offices of several prominent national and international companies. Now an established interior designer and sought-after real estate agent for Campbell Property Group, Andrew is able to offer insight and serve the real estate needs of sellers and buyers. “From conceptualisation to realisation of each project, and the meticulous marshalling of resources within budget constraints, my object is to ultimately turn a client’s dream into a stunning reality.”

Stuck in your home during lockdown?

“Everyone is stressing spending so much time at home, worried about when things will go back to normal. If you find yourself bored and staring at social media for hours on end, maybe it’s time to direct your energy and time into something productive – like tackling projects around the house that you’ve been ignoring. Now is the time to rethink your home and plan for the times ahead,” says Andrew.

Here’s how…

Have a clear out
Decluttering is horrible! However, now is a great time to take a step-by-step approach and not tackle everything at once … just one pile of papers, one stack of books or one kitchen cupboard. Bag everything, label and store for distribution when lockdown lifts.

Rethink your space
You’re probably spending more time in your lounge and outside veranda than usual. Transform the area into a more welcoming space. Little things like rearranging pictures you have on the walls and shelves can add a fresh perspective. Rearrange your shelves, move everything, dust and declutter and put things back differently. Reposition your furniture. Get your family involved with home improvements!

Brighten up your bathroom
Little changes can create a big impact. Add a large, bevelled mirror; a new, more modern set of mixer taps and a some new low-cost bathroom accessories. Add a pop of colour with new bath towels on a new towel rail for a completely fresh and more modern finish.

Fix the furniture
C
ouches, benches, beds and pedestals … one day they’re fine and the next they wobble and are uncomfortable. Get out the screwdrivers, hammer and other tools and get the family involved in fixing and tightening things up!

Fix up the front door
T
he front door is the first point of welcome to your home – for to you, your family and your friends. No visitors during lockdown does not mean they are not coming, so use this time to give the front door a makeover, which will make the home entrance a warm welcome for when we can finally start to socialise again.

Kitchen makeover
In modern homes, the kitchen is the most important room in the house. Instead of doing a costly full-blown kitchen remodel, sand down and repaint your cabinets do a front panel and door respray and replace the handles. What a refreshing change!

Try gardening
Now is the time to enjoy your green space. Teach the children to plant and grow a veggie or herb garden, weed everywhere and make the street appeal inspiring.

“While this pandemic has hard hit the property market hard, confidence is quickly returning as bond applications are steadily rising. There is nothing quite as satisfying as owning your own home and adding value by improving it during lockdown – one of the primary means of creating personal wealth.” Details: Andrew
