Farm to freezer to fork

Zoom calls, kids’ lunches, cooking dinner… most of us are always under pressure and don’t have enough time in the day. Using the their home kitchens to make delicious, locally-sourced meals to go, Westville moms and founders of FreeFromFood , Christine van Niekerk and Chef Nell van Rooyen are hard at work knocking up designer meal packages aimed at taking the worry out of your mealtime. And believe us, they are yum! Not only are they beautifully packaged and incredibly delicious to eat, but they are worth every cent. Plus, they are helping others through their FreeFromFood Give Initiative, which offers easy ways to give back to the people we know and love, or to those less fortunate than us. The FreeFromFood goals are simple: source locally, give it some farm-to-freezer-to-fork style (which means organic and ethically sourced vegetables and free range meat, with no added hormones and antibiotic free), and have a whole lot of fun in the kitchen creating, testing and cooking great quality meals to make it easy for you to enjoy a variety of delicious new dishes and flavours based on seasonality and food trends. FreeFromFood meals and snacks are available in Vegan, Flexitarian (mainly plant-based), Meaty, Kids and Auto Immune Protocol, and include favourites like Chickpea Curry, Thai Roast Butternut Soup (to die for!), Beef Lasagne, Coconut Chicken Curry, Ostrich Moussaka Stack, Thai Chicken and Caulirice Salad. A Box of Treats will get you a selection of Sweet Potato Muffins, Anzac Cookies, Coconut Seed Bars and Peanut Butter Blondies, which are all refined sugar free. FreeFromFood also offer individual meals and snacks for those who would like to choose their own selection, and have also added a range of Propa Smoothies and Homemade Muesli as a breakfast offering. Traditional gone virtual…

Business cards – we lose them, lump them in our drawers, our details change and we often forget them when we need them most. The ME Business Card gives users the ability to leave printed cards behind forever! The brainchild of Hillcrest’s Jacques Vieira, The ME Business Card is a traditional business tool turned masterpiece – at the fraction of the cost. This virtual sidekick allows you to update your contact details whenever you need to and connect to more people than ever before because it generated and builds a list of leads that can be used for future marketing. If you like the sound of one of these instead of the traditional cardboard carry-around, get in touch with Jacques. Details: 082 940 6440, [email protected]

The latest beverage trend we can all get behind

Now more than ever, people are very aware of what they put into their bodies. As such, we’ve seen a quick introduction of many new non-alcoholic versions of our favourite drinks. Gone are the days of sugar-filled sodas with a braai. A leader in the zero alcohol market, John Ross Virgin Distilled Botanicals is a first of its kind for South Africa and the world. Loaded with botanicals, perfectly blended to create a classic non-alcoholic spirit infused with honey bush tannin, John Ross can be enjoyed not only by the individual who chooses not to drink alcohol, but by pregnant women too! Best served with either Barker & Quin Premium Tonic Water or soda water for 0 calories, or you can throw in some fresh fruit, rosemary, basil leaves or whatever you choose for your personal favourite serve! The kiss of collagen

Where is the first place you can tell that you’re ageing? Yup, your skin. We recently gave Vivo Glow Collagen a try and we’ve not been disappointed by the results! Born out of a passion project taken on by three Durban besties with mixed skill sets, it’s a product that has been tried, tested and proven to work. All three women have been taking collagen themselves (and have mothers who have taken it for years) and they truly believe in the effects and results. This fuelled their drive to create a product that provides the perfect monthly mix of superior one hundred per cent pure type I and III hydrolyzed bovine collagen and vitamin C. All you need is one tablespoon of Vivo Glow daily to boost naturally declining collagen levels and you’ll notice improved skin elasticity and hydration. In addition, it promotes functionality of the digestive system and central nervous system, improves joint condition and boosts overall wellbeing. Fresh simple cooking!

We are thrilled that one of our favourite foodie go-to’s has finally launched a cook book! With her cooking school having had to close due to lockdown, Danielle du Toit started sharing recipes on social media to inspire her fans and others new to the ‘Pheka tribe’ not to give up during those really tough early days of being cooped up at home. The phenomenal response she received gave her something positive to focus on and since then she’s been cooking, styling, photographing and learning editing skills to ultimately (in collaboration with a special publishing friend) make it all happen! A dream come true! Pheka fresh simple cooking is filled with easy-to-follow, healthy recipes with simple ingredients to bring exciting new flavours into your home in a fresh simple way. It’s a really great addition to your home life during lockdown with selections of brekkies, light meals, easy mains, food for the fire and sweet treats. An A5 printed soft cover will cost you R160 (excluding delivery) and the eBook version is R100. Details: www.pheka.co.za or e-mail [email protected]
