This month we’re obsessed with…
50 years of beautiful roses…
Ludwig’s Roses celebrates its 50th anniversary this month and behind it all is Ludwig Taschner’s love affair with the rose, and his passion to share its beauty with as many people as possible. Known to many as South Africa’s Mr. Rose, Ludwig has introduced more than 500 new varieties of roses, including many that he has bred himself. He has travelled the length and breadth of the country giving talks, workshops and judging rose shows. He is even active on social media! Ludwig’s Roses began in 1971 with a small start-up rose nursery on the rose farm outside Pretoria and has since grown to five dedicated rose outlets in Gauteng, the Western and Southern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. Join the celebrations at Ludwig’s Rose Farm, north of Pretoria on March 21 and 22 (all health protocols observed) and collect a free Golden Anniversary souvenir catalogue from any of Ludwig’s Rose Outlets countrywide.
Plants from pencils… and for a good cause
We are so in love with these sprout pencils that are part of Impala Ridge Farm’s in-house Feed a Child Campaign. The idea behind the sprout pencil is that by taking small steps and using simple innovative solutions, positive change is possible. Each pencil has seeds in it, so once it is too short to write with, you can plant it and watch it grow into luscious flowers, fragrant herbs and vegetables. By planting a sprout pencil instead of throwing it away, you can make sustainability visible to others and inspire them to make small changes in their daily life. For companies or organizations that have a passion for sustainability, pencils with seeds make the ideal gift. What’s even better, is that for every pencil sold Impala Ridge Farm donates a vegetable box to a family or child in need.

Heavenly skin therapy…
A trip to our little local neighbourhood market turned into a delight when we were given a sample of Aromessence Rescue Balm – just one of the incredibly healing products lovingly handmade by local, Wendy Wotherspoon – an experienced aroma therapist, body and skin care therapist, massage specialist and reflexologist. Wendy has created her range of products using completely natural ingredients that are vegan and cruelty-free. Some of her products we’ve fallen in love with are lip balms (R35), rescue elixir (R180), eco-friendly meditation and massage candles (R245), reed home diffusers (R295), and of course her famous Rescue Balm (R135) for effortless wellbeing. Absolutely heavenly, indeed! You’ll find her candles at Fabrique Interiors in Westville and a range of her products at Hub in the Hills at Link Hills Lifestyle Centre in Waterfall.
