She’s passionate about wildlife, photography and travelling and was recently announced as the top student in the world for two of her subjects. Meet Grade 11 Ashton International College pupil Danielle Boshoff.

It’s one thing being named as the top student in your school, or even the province, but it’s pretty amazing being named as the top student in the world!
Danielle, who achieved a remarkable 99% for Afrikaans as a second language and 98% for Physical Science, was recently announced as one of the top 2020 Cambridge IGCSE students and first in the world for these two subjects. Pretty impressive, especially considering over 140 countries and 4500 schools wrote the examinations. We caught up with this ambitious, driven Grade 11 pupil.

PLEASE TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY
I grew up in Johannesburg and currently live with my father and have three much older half-brothers. Growing up we spent a lot of time travelling as a family and spent many weekends and holidays on our private game farm. We relocated to Ballito in 2016.
Have you always been a high achiever at school? And how does it feel to achieved first place in the world?
I’ve always been academically inclined. From a young age I’ve always put a lot of effort into my school work and I have been awarded many prizes and accolades. It’s honestly unbelievable and I was so shocked when I found out. It’s amazing knowing that all my hard work paid off.
WHAT DO YOU PUT YOUR EXCELLENT RESULTS DOWN TO?
Working hard consistently throughout the year and never procrastinating. For every task I have to do or test I have to write, I put in my best effort. I also put in a lot of extra time in preparation before exams, doing countless past papers and studying hard. I am very fortunate that Ashton has excellent, specialized Cambridge teachers who were available to teach me, to guide me and to prepare me for the exams.
WHAT IS YOUR CAREER DREAM?
I’m still not completely sure but I really like the idea of becoming a wildlife veterinarian. I grew up surrounded by animals and I have developed a passion for them.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES AND INTERESTS?
I really enjoy spending time outdoors, hiking and being in nature. I love wildlife photography and travelling is another thing I really enjoy! I enjoy cooking, dancing and reading.
WHAT WOULD YOUR ADVICE BE TO KIDS WHO ARE ABOUT TO START THEIR EXAMS?
It is crucial to revise the morning before the exam. Waking up early and going over all the content after studying really helps you to remember the work and maybe pick up on small details you might have missed. The information will be fresh in your mind when you start writing.
