July Fever  comes once a year … yip, it’s time for the Vodacom Durban July horse race, which takes place at the world-renowned Greyville Racecourse on the first Saturday in July each year.  This year, due to Covid, the event remains behind closed doors … however fashionistas, socialites and fans of Africa’s biggest racing event are encouraged to explore the plumage of Africa’s birds, host their own ‘Birds of a Feather’ inspired private events and catch all the action on Tellytrack on DStv channel 239 during the course of the day. 4 July

Run for charity. The Traderoot Active #GetActive run lets you choose between a 5km or 10km run … and proceeds go to a project which raises funds for recognised organisations that support and sustain sports development and children’s education. It’s a 7am start, from Salt Rock Coffee, so take your friends and family and make a morning of it. 11 July

Don’t miss The Winter Craft Market – an initiative of the Clansthal Conservancy members who, every three months (lockdown permitting) host markets at the delightful home of Keith and Liz Cunningham. Shop in a beautiful garden for handmade crafts or and enjoy the many homemade food stalls … all funds raised are to support conservancy initiatives, and local community are employed to assist.  9am to 2pm at 111 Pig & Whistle Drive, Clansthal. Women  in business should not miss the next Upper Highway Ladies Networking monthly meeting, which gives female entrepreneurs the opportunity to connect, collaborate and inspire. This month’s event takes place (featuring an inspiring guest speaker) at The Gregory, 23 Tracey Watts Road, Fields Hill, a beautiful setting for women to meet.  9am to 11am. 17 July

Full steam ahead … enjoy a nostalgic fun family outing on board the Inchanga Choo Choo. The fabulous Umgeni Steam Railway (a member of, and supported by, 1000 Hills Community Tourism Organisation) takes a three-hour round trip from Stokers to Inchanga Station and back again. There is a pop-up market and food fair at Inchanga, you can visit the Railway museum and model railway exhibition and you can buy refreshments and souvenirs in the old Inchanga railway station. It runs on the last weekend of each month and on select holidays – including mid-month trains especially for the July school holidays. There’s safe parking at The Kloof Civic Centre.  Special July school holiday trains run on: Saturday, 17 July at 8.30am and 12.30pm, Sunday, 18 July at 8.30am and 12.30pm, Saturday, 24 July at12.30pm and Sunday, 25 July at 8.30am and 12.30pm.
