Rotary International President chose as one his themes for the 21/22 “Empowering Young Women”, with this in mind The Rotary Club of Hillcrest planned a programme five Saturday mornings covering a number of different Topics.  The presenters for each session were themselves young and enthusiastic giving the students ideas for transformation and on skills transfer played out in action.

Topics covered were, broadly:

  • Having a dream & reaching your potential
  • Skills for navigating life
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Looking after yourself

Five schools in the upper Highway area were approached to encourage female students to apply to attend, this they did by each girl wishing to attend sending us a motivating letter. The young Women were in Grade 11 in 2022  and had ideally already shown an interest in Community Service projects.  Schools represented were:

  • Thabela High School
  • KwaNtebeni HS/Ikhethelo
  • Fulton High School
  • Hillcrest High School
  • Kloof High School
  • Curro High School

The 22  students arrived at the Le Domaine Estate on 12 February introducing them to the programme of events put together.  The purpose of the project was to empower them to reach for the stars, and to apply what they learn in supporting their peers and the wider community.

This past Saturday 25 June was the final day that the club met with the girls who presented (in their School Groups) their experiences on spending time together as well as how these have already benefited them or will do so going forward. Each student was allowed to invite a guest as well as representatives from their Schools in the form of a principal or educator.
