Organ donors unite

In addition to bikers, transplant coordinators, South African National Blood Service workers and volunteers, a whopping 435 people of all ages showed their support by joining the recent Organ Donor Foundation (ODF) 5km trail at Morewood Farm and Mountain Bike Park. Clear blue skies and sunshine prevailed, so the cool forest was a pleasure to walk in, and the atmosphere was festive as walkers discovered the 250 wildlife-themed stones that had been painted by volunteers from Bryn Rocks Durban, a group affiliated to local organ and tissue donor awareness NPO, Hero777. ODF volunteers were delighted to have signed up 69 prospective organ and tissue donors and the blood clinic received 17 pints of blood. The event was a great success in terms of creating awareness for the cause and the incredible camaraderie shared amongst those who were there on the day.
