Wanting to give the modest maize a bit of a revamp, Isla Rechner from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Islasfoodco\">Isla&#8217;s<\/a> created the pap pop.\u00a0 A South African Arancini if you will. These little morsels are stuffed with biltong and mozzarella and served with a peppadew relish. The perfect braai snack<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Pap pops \u2013 makes 18<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 cup maize meals<br \/>\n1 litre water<br \/>\n40g mozzarella, chopped into cubes<br \/>\n30g biltong<br \/>\n150g breadcrumbs<br \/>\n1 egg<br \/>\nOil for frying<\/p>\n<p><em><u>Peppadew relish <\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<p>180g peppadews<br \/>\n60g red onion, diced<br \/>\n2 tablespoons of vinegar<br \/>\n1 teaspoons \u00a0sugar<\/p>\n<p><u>Method<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Place a pot of salted water onto the boil<\/li>\n<li>Whisk in maize meal, stirring to prevent lumps<\/li>\n<li>Simmer for 30 minutes and thick<\/li>\n<li>Leave to cool<\/li>\n<li>Divide into 18 balls<\/li>\n<li>Stuff each ball with a cube of cheese and biltong<\/li>\n<li>Coat each ball in the breadcrumbs<\/li>\n<li>Follow this by dipping in beaten egg and another coat of breadcrumbs<\/li>\n<li>Heat a pot of oil or a deep fat fryer to 180 degrees<\/li>\n<li>Fry the pap pops for a few minutes or until nice and golden<\/li>\n<li>For the peppadew relish, place all the ingredients in a blender and whizz until smooth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Pap is a much loved South African staple that is usually prepared simply and served with meat and tomato relish.
