Discuss the budget with your families first, and then narrow things down with these handy tips.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The venue<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>When scouting venues, make sure everything from the tables, chairs, cutlery and glassware is included in your fee.<\/li>\n<li>Consider an off-peak wedding. Venues lower their rates in winter and they\u2019re usually cheaper on weekdays than weekends.<\/li>\n<li>Have the ceremony and reception at the same venue and ask if hiring an in-house wedding planner is included in the cost.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t hand over the venue deposit before you\u2019ve had time to decide what you both really want.<\/li>\n<li>Ask about deposits and if a refundable breakage deposit is required.<\/li>\n<li>If you want to host your own wedding, remember you\u2019ll have to pay for tables, chairs, cutlery, crockery, waiters, barmen, caterers and decor &#8211; the lists are endless.<\/li>\n<li>Destination weddings cost more.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-30976 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/highway-berea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/lights-edcor-267x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"267\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/highway-berea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/lights-edcor-267x400.jpg 267w, https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/highway-berea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/lights-edcor-684x1024.jpg 684w, https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/highway-berea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/lights-edcor-696x1043.jpg 696w, https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/highway-berea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/lights-edcor-280x420.jpg 280w, https:\/\/getitmagazine.co.za\/highway-berea\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/lights-edcor.jpg 721w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 267px) 100vw, 267px\" \/>The decor<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lighting is the quickest and often the cheapest way to create ambience &#8230; use fairy lights and lots of candles.<\/li>\n<li>Cut down costs by asking family and close friends to help you with the decor.<\/li>\n<li>Keep things simple &#8230; go for single flower stems in tall vases and use lots of greenery instead of expensive flower arrangements.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t have enormous floral centrepieces on the tables &#8230; rather have bigger ones at focal points such as the entrance or at the ceremony.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The bar<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The bar bill is one of the most expensive items on a wedding budget, but rather over order with the option of the venue or bottle store buying back what wasn\u2019t opened.<\/li>\n<li>Stick to beer, wine and a signature cocktail.<\/li>\n<li>Consider a brunch wedding as less alcohol is needed.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid a cash bar &#8230; cut costs elsewhere.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t offer energy drinks &#8230; spirits and shots can be put on your guests\u2019 tabs.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t put wine on the table &#8230; ask the waiters to offer and fill glasses as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Serve bubbly for toasts only.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The outfits<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Shop the sales at wedding dress shops.<\/li>\n<li>If possible, budget for the bridal party\u2019s attire and alterations.<\/li>\n<li>Look online for discounts and deals.<\/li>\n<li>Hire the groomsmen suits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The photography<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You don\u2019t have to use the most expensive photographer. Make a shortlist and discuss packages.<\/li>\n<li>Many photographers have assistants, which may seem like an added expense, but if photos are a priority, having a second shooter means those spontaneous moments will be captured.<\/li>\n<li>Negotiate your package and watch out for overtime costs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Keep in mind<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your service providers require food, water and soft drinks on the day; if your wedding venue is out of town, then you may have to pay for their petrol and accommodation.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t waste money on wedding favours &#8230; you\u2019re giving your guests a wonderful celebration, so they don\u2019t need a gift.<\/li>\n<li>Choose seasonal, local flowers.<\/li>\n<li>Keep the menu fresh and local and serve your cake as dessert.<\/li>\n<li>Save paper and money and send out e-vites; it\u2019s perfectly acceptable &#8211; and far more fashionable &#8211; these days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Working out a wedding budget is a stressful time for most couples.
