For this year\u2019s brides, wedding dress trends are all about pretty details. Romantic shapes, coloured embroidery, opulent lace, princess-inspired trains, buttery fabrics in subtle hues and transformable garments are all expected to define the biggest bridal looks of the year, and designers, like Hanrie Lues, are embracing these new styles, while continuing to stay true to the underlying ethos of bridal fashion.<\/p>\n

\u201cWedding dresses are a genuine expression of style on your big day, so making the right choice for you, boils down to the basics \u2013 budget, body-type, personal\u00a0style and timeline. When you\u2019ve identified these, it becomes all about what makes you feel beautiful and happy.\u201d<\/p>\n
To kick-start your mission to glide down the aisle exactly as you\u2019ve been dreaming, Hanrie shares her pick of the top bridal trends that will shape 2024.<\/p>\n
Veils<\/strong><\/p>\n I have always been a sucker for a beautiful veil! As a bridal designer I personally believe that a veil is\u00a0 the icing on the cake to complete your bridal look. So, not only has it absolutely delighted me to see so many brides embracing this trend, but to see them going completely over the top! Embroidery, floral patterns, sparkles, colour, you name it! Anything goes, as long as it compliments your gown and creates a statement.<\/p>\n Sleeves<\/strong><\/p>\n Sleeves are not as \u2018frumpy\u2019 these days, as they have always been perceived to be. Modern brides have started leaning into the different applications for sleeves, like detachable options and transformable garments. Think out of the box with textures, volume and lengths. Make this trend work for you by applying it to your existing sense of style.<\/p>\n Corsets<\/strong><\/p>\n For years many of my clients have hated boning and corsetry, opting instead for more easy-to-wear construction methods. Fabric technology has also progressed in leaps and bounds, offering designers many different ways to construct bridal gowns in the most comfortable ways possible.\u00a0So corsetry today is much easier to get into and move in than before. With this in mind, brides seem to have really been inspired by the outer look of the corset, as well as the hourglass moulding feature it presents.<\/p>\n Coloured wedding gowns<\/strong><\/p>\n In previous years, we have seen the rise of this customised trend, but in 2024 I think brides will be even more comfortable experimenting with different shades. I also believe we will be seeing more and more coloured embroidery and lace work on white base fabrics.<\/p>\n Minimal<\/strong><\/p>\n Modern brides have also been fascinated by the clean and crisp lines of minimal gowns of late. This is a trend I think is here to stay for at least another season. Fabrics chosen are mostly buttery satins or liquid silks. But, many brides are also more inclined to choose matt finish fabrics like crepe, georgette and stretch twills. It is essential for any gown created in this genre, to be impeccably tailored, as the slightest flaw will ruin the whole look.
