Beauty trends come and go with every season. One month it’s glass skin, the next it’s bold colour or barely-there makeup. While trends can be fun to experiment with, Wes (as he is better known) believes the foundations of great beauty never really change.<\/p>\n

Having spent almost a decade helping clients look and feel their best, Wes has built a reputation for creating polished, confidence-boosting looks. What began with house calls at just 18 has grown into Makeup by Wes, one of Durban’s best-known beauty studios, where he and his team specialise in everything from bridal makeup and hairstyling to premium hair extensions and special occasion looks.<\/p>\n
One lesson stands out above all others: healthy skin is the foundation of every great makeup look. Consistent skincare, proper hydration and taking the time to prepare the skin before applying makeup all contribute to a flawless finish that lasts.<\/p>\n
Wes also believes makeup should never disguise who you are.<\/p>\n
“The best makeup enhances your natural features rather than hiding them,” he says. “When someone still looks like themselves, just a little more confident, that’s when I know we’ve achieved the right result.”<\/p>\n

Hair is another essential part of the overall look. Whether it’s a precision cut, expertly applied extensions or fresh colour, Wes says beautiful hair and beautiful makeup work hand in hand to create a polished appearance.<\/p>\n
Perhaps the biggest lesson his career has taught him, however, has little to do with cosmetics.<\/p>\n
“I’ve seen clients walk into the studio feeling nervous and leave standing taller, smiling brighter and feeling completely different,” he says. “Confidence is always the most flattering thing anyone can wear.”<\/p>\n
While social media introduces new beauty trends almost daily, Wes encourages people to treat them as inspiration rather than rules.<\/p>\n
“Not every trend suits every face shape, skin tone or lifestyle,” he says. “The best beauty choices are the ones that feel authentic to you.”<\/p>\n
The business continues to evolve, with the recent launch of Wes’s fourth cosmetics collection, The Summer of ’99 Makeup Collection, as well as plans for makeup masterclasses and pop-up experiences around the country.<\/p>\n
For Wes, helping people feel good about themselves remains the heart of everything he does.<\/p>\n
“Our goal has never been to make people look different,” he says. “It’s to help every client look and feel like the very best version of themselves.”<\/p>\n
