Summer. We love it. But the humidity! Never mind our hair (frizz, anyone!) … but also every day feels muggy and sticky. Then there’s the mould. And the condensation on windows. And our dresses take forever to dry! Say a warm (but not humid) hello to the Solenco MeacoDry Arete Two … which combines efficient dehumidification with air purification.

""It’s a 20-litre unit, making it the perfect dehumidifier for a three-to-five bedroom home. With Wi-Fi connectivity (so you can monitor it remotely), a LCD display, which gives you all the info you need, it’s quiet and energy efficient and has user-friendly features like child lock and adjustable timers, as well as an adjustable louvre and additional fan speed for faster and more efficient laundry drying. Absolutely no Summer blues at all with this baby in the home! R9999 from solencostore.com.

""When Molly Fitzgerald was two months old, her mother went to a morning appointment in downtown New York. And like so many who left their homes on September 11, 2001, Molly’s mother never came home. Now Molly saves lives for a living, running a department for when disasters strike. She and her husband Jesse have found a love that is a solace in a dangerous world. And she’s spent her life preparing for catastrophe. But nothing could prepare her when a disaster strikes too close to home. In Hollow Bones, Jodi Picoult tells an epic story of the lies we tell ourselves, the plans we design to protect ourselves at the worst moments, and the ties that bind mothers and daughters. Michael Joseph

""The Singleton Luscious (and it really is!) Nectar is a 12-year-old single malt Scotch whisky which has delicious notes of honey, nuts and hints of coffee. Neat, on the rocks, with soda … you’ll find for around R669 from Checkers and good bottlestores.

Easy to wear t-shirt shape, blue and milk stripes, a forgiving faux wrap … this is the ultimate, relaxed throw-on-and-go dress. R999. Crossover starfish sandals which work as well on the beach as they do at cocktail hour. R1279 from meandb.shop

""So, is cleaning high up on our wish list? Nah. But … when we find something clever, we’re prepared to make an exception. The new Los Lappies are not like normal cleaning clothes, which are made from synthetic, plastic-based fibres, stay damp for too long and quickly start to smell like the very mess they are meant to clean. These ones are plant-fibre cloth (hello earth-friendly) made from 70 per cent wood cellulose and 30 per cent cotton by-products … they feel paper-like when dry, turn soft and spongy when damp, absorb instantly, dry quickly and don’t get that damp-cloth smell. Plus, a single Los Lappie can last six to nine months, and although its main ingredient is the same plant-fibre used to make paper, it is durable enough to go in the dishwasher or washing machine again and again and again. Then, once worn thin, they can be composted instead of sent to landfill. Two sizes … the everyday OG for sinks, counters, sticky hands and small spills, the XL for bigger clean-ups, windows, appliances and all the moments when a standard cloth feels too small. Fun sayings to cheer up cleaning, and they’re made locally. R240 for four OG or two XL from loslappies.com.
