Carnival City’s Mardi Gras Theatre will come alive with the sound of authentic Afrikaans music by an ensemble of South Africa’s best loved artists on February 8, 2020.
Taking to the stage for Afrikaans Carnival are Arno Jordaan, Nicholis Louw and Irene-Louise van Wyk.
“True to our promise to give South African artists a platform to showcase their talent and perform for their fans, we bring three of South Africa’s favourite Afrikaans performers to our stage in February. Fans can look forward to a vibrant yet intimate concert featuring new hits and familiar favourites,” said Michelle Smith, marketing manager at Carnival City.
Each of the artists brings their unique sound to the show.
Jordaan is an Afrikaans pop singer who has been on the music scene since 2003 when he was the runner-up in a reality TV talent show on KykNET. He signed with EMI and released his debut album, Altyd in Jou Drome. His follow up album Ek wil Jou Hê went platinum. He enjoys popularity with South African audiences in Australia, the UK and the USA. With his fourth album Gee My he was nominated for the South African Music Awards’ (SAMA) “Best African Dance Album” with the album going platinum. His album Stukkie van my Hart was certified gold.
Nicholis Louw is a well-known pop and opera singer. His repertoire, primarily in Afrikaans, includes rock, pop, country and music ballads, often incorporating strong classical elements. Louw has had a number of successful albums through releases through Select Music starting with his debut album in 2003, selling over 650,000 albums. His major hits include “Ek wil my baby hê vanaand”, “Rock daai lyfie” and “Generaal”. He tours extensively averaging more than 100 gigs a year.
Irene-Louise van Wyk released her debut CD, More Than Words, in 2016. The singer and songwriter grew up in Pretoria and was always in the presence of South African and international stars. Van Wyk, the daughter of Louis van Wyk (Artist Manager and owner of Music Profile Management) and the late Irene van Wyk (a singer who mesmerised audiences for years), is the complete package. She is beautiful, talented and has a magnificent voice. At the beginning of 2016 her song “Jy Speel ‘n Game Met My” peaked and stayed at number one on several radio charts, played on almost all local radio frequencies and had listeners hooked.
