The Spa at The Residence Boutique Hotel must surely be one of Joburg’s best kept secrets. This roof top spa, with bougainvillea-edged spa bath and pedi-chairs overlooking the trees of Houghton, is our new favourite place to get away from the stress of the city (which is just five minutes away). All bright strawberry and taupe, lush green and off-white, guests are welcomed into this pretty spa with a floral hibiscus and rose tea and a foot bath, before being ushered into one of the four treatment suites, including a couple suite for treatments à deux. For such a small, intimate spa, the selection of treatments is impressive … more than a dozen facials and peels, skin tightening and derma needling, body scrubs and wraps, as well as loads of massage choices, from hot stone to aromatherapy, from Swedish to the intense deep tissue massage. There’s also a hydro steam room and sauna, which you can book for exclusive use. If you’ve time to indulge, there are packages for between two and five hours, for those with a time restraint there are quicker nail treatments, waxes and brow and lash tints. Exceptional therapists make this a wonderful option for those looking for a spot which offers both the basic necessities and more luxurious spoils.
