What if the star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, were two adolescent schoolboys in a Catholic boarding school during the 1950s? In Joe Calarco’s Shakespeare’s R&J, four pupils find an illicit copy of Romeo and Juliet and start acting it out. Soon the fun of play-acting turns serious and universal truths emerge.
Pieter Toerien’s Montecasino Theatre. Until September 8. From R90.
