Africa\u2019s premier artisanal luxury fair, Handmade Contemporary Fair (HmC Fair), is back for the 17th<\/sup> time \u2026 and we can\u2019t wait.<\/strong><\/h4>\n

This year’s event, themed “Where Handmade African Luxury Meets the Future,” champions the preservation of cultural heritage while celebrating the transformative power of technology in promoting African luxury goods and brands.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll be able to see the talents of more than 100 artisans from across the African continent, representing a diverse range of disciplines. Visitors will get the chance to engage with acclaimed South African makers, including brands such as Nahla Sleepwear, One of Each, Wakanda Food Incubator, Helon Melon, La Cucina di Ciro, Belletogs, Sari For Change, and Woodstock Laundry. There\u2019ll also be a stand with the intricate wall hangings by renowned maker Lerato Motau, as well as many other incredible makers.<\/p>\n

Excitingly, this year’s HmC Fair is set to host a variety of renowned international African brands. Among the highlights are the ethereal fashion accessories by Kenya’s Adele Dejak, and Rwanda’s Mille Collines.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the fair will showcase Messay Organic Cotton from Ethiopia, a brand distinguished for its 100% organic cotton products, handwoven and dyed in natural colors. From scarfs, sarongs and kaftans to ponchos and beach towels, the array of offerings is vast. These featured brands and many other surprises await, promising to thrill and engage the crowd.<\/p>\n

Drawing a discerning crowd of local and international luxury enthusiasts, HmC Fair offers a platform for unique and sustainable African-made goods. The principles of luxury craftsmanship, artisanal production, self-sustainability, and eco-friendliness remain at the heart of the HmC Fair, fostering a global connection and recognition for African artisans.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s taking place from Friday 1 to Sunday 3 September on Whiteley Road, Melrose Arch Precinct, Joburg. Times are 11.30am to 9pm on Friday, 10am to 9pm on Saturday, and 10am to 5pm on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Day passes cost R120, and weekend passes cost R200. At the door, tickets will be available for R130 per day, with a partner discount rate of R90 per day. Children under 18 can attend the fair free of charge but must be accompanied by an adult.<\/p>\n

This year, HmC Fair is also part of Melrose Arch\u2019s \u2018All White Spring\u2019 weekend. This means that the precinct will not only feature the fair, but also come alive with activities that attract a larger-than-usual crowd. Activities include:<\/p>\n

  1. The Melrose Gallery presents the three-day SculptX which is an annual sculpture fair, the largest of its kind in South Africa. The gallery is a leading Pan African Contemporary space.<\/li>\n
  2. At the end of the weekend, Daytona will host its famous \u2018SuperCar Sunday\u2019. \u2013 a display of spectacular supercars including: Maserati, Lamborghini, McLaren, Porsche, Ferrari, you name it and you’ll see it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
